Maldivian Sihhath Initiative A non-profit organisation implemented for the provision of first aid training and supplies to the maldives This has been named the Maldivian Sihhath Initiative.

For many the image of the Maldives is one of high-end luxury resorts, deserted islands and crystal clear waters, but for the local population of 350,000 it can be a struggle to access basic pre hospital healthcare in an emergency situation. In response, four paramedics from Bournemouth, Poole and Wimborne have formed an initiative that will bring vital emergency-response training and equipment to the local population of five islands across the Maldivian archipelago.

Yesterday saw the team head to 2 local community islands here in the Noonu Atoll. We also were joined by Karan (L&D manager) & Shifal (Security Manager) who would be able to support with translation if required. It was a short 20 minute commute by speedboat to Miladhoo, which has an current population of just over 900 and measures just 0.5miles long and 0.2miles wide. [ 1,825 more word ]

Yesterday (5th September), saw us make the transition from land to water, where we start the water safety and life saving skills training, This aspect of the training has been well received previously both at the resorts and the local communities, and us undoubtedly rising in demand. Especially, given the nature of the environment here in the Maldives, the lack of basic swimming skills, and as a direct consequence of a recent rise in deaths due to drowning. [ 858 more words ]

Monday the 2nd September saw us leave the relative familiarity of the Baa Atoll, and make the 1.5hr journey to the Noono Atoll, specifically Soneva Jani, where we would begin the next phase of the trip. We arrived in earnest (whoever he might be?!) where we were met by Karan and the security team and were promptly ushered to the host HR & training office. [ 358 more words ]

Firstly, apologies for the recent delay in blogs, we've been busy finishing training in the Baa Atoll and preparing to move to the Noonu Atoll. The trip so far has been hugely successful with Phil, Lauren and Kasey have been holding the fort fantastically well, and despite the logistical issues due to poor weather, have been resilient throughout ensuring that training has not been affected.
