About Behçet’s UK (formerly Behçet’s Syndrome Society)
Behçet’s UK (formerly Behçet’s Syndrome Society) was formed in 1983 by Judith Buckle (1950-1997).
Behçet’s UK represents all Behçet’s patients in the UK including those yet to be diagnosed. Reducing time to diagnosis is our top priority, reliant upon raising comprehensive awareness of Behçet's amongst all clinicians within NHS primary, secondary and tertiary care.
We strive to secure the best care for all Behçet's patients and assist carers, parents and relatives. We promote research into the cause, effects, treatment and management of this rare, complex and debilitating disease.
Having helped to establish 3 Behçet’s Centres of Excellence in England, we now lobby for proper comprehensive care in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
The main aims of Behçet’s UK are:
To provide information and support for people with Behçet’s and for those who care for them.
To provide financial aid in hardship caused by Behçet’s.
To foster education, collaboration and networking in the medical and allied professions with an interest in Behçet’s.
To promote and assist with research into Behçet’s.
To promote the formation of patient support groups and awareness of this rare disease amongst the appropriate influential institutions, authorities and decision-making bodies, and to provide them with detailed information about Behçet’s.
