✨ Your First Fertility Scan — What to Expect ✨
Hi everyone, here Midwife Emily briefly describes what happens for your first scan 💛
If you’re about to have your first fertility scan, it’s completely normal to feel nervous. Here’s what you can expect — and how to prepare so you feel calm and confident:
👩⚕️ What is it?
A fertility scan is an ultrasound that helps us understand your reproductive health, it is usually an internal scan, or trans va**nal scan. This means a thin probe is gently inserted into the va**na with plenty of water based gel for your comfort. The purpose is to look at your ovaries and womb. It’s usually done early in your fertility journey.
🕒 When it happens:
Often scheduled in the follicular phase of your cycle, these are the days between when you bleed and when you ovulate, or the first half of your cycle. If you have irregular periods or no periods, it can still be scheduled.
💧 How to prepare:
· Good hygiene is important before any intimate examination, however there is no need to take any extra special steps other than your normal daily hygiene. The scan can be done during your period as well.
· Empty your bladder when you arrive at the clinic – this helps us to see better the uterus and the ovaries, and it is also more comfortable for you.
· Wear easy to remove leggings or trousers, or a dress/skirt. No jumpsuits for this examination ;)
· Bring a list of any questions you’d like to ask — this is your time to understand your body better.
· Take a deep breath — scans are gentle, and your sonographer or midwife will talk you through every step.
💬 Remember: This scan is all about gathering information to guide your next steps — not a test you can “pass or fail.” You’re taking an important step toward understanding your fertility and your body 💕
