Breathe Arts Health Research

Breathe Arts Health Research Breathe Arts Health Research (Breathe) designs and delivers creative programmes, underpinned by scientific research, to improve health and wellbeing.

Our work is co-designed with artists, scientists, healthcare staff and patients, to meet specific clinical and wellbeing needs. We deliver a diverse range of evidence-based participatory programmes and live performance events across a range of art forms, including dance, music, visual art, poetry and magic. Breathe is a values driven organisation, with a small team who make a big impact. Our innovative and artistic approach to transforming healthcare experiences, offer those we work with, a sense of empowerment, hope and creative fulfilment when they need it most. Breathe are delighted to be one of the first arts and health companies to be recognised by NHS England for our work. Patients and communities can access our programmes through referrals from a healthcare practitioner or link worker – making our work part of mainstream healthcare. To help achieve this, we back up our creative approaches with robust clinical research. Our programmes are developed in collaboration with leading healthcare professionals and cultural partners worldwide, then assessed for its medical and economic value. Our research papers are published in peer-reviewed medical journals. Breathe also offers consultancy services in healthcare and business, including corporate communications training, unique team building opportunities and keynote speakers.

What a night! 💛✨

Last night we celebrated the incredible Social Enterprise UK Awards 2025 at the Royal Festival Hall, a room filled with some of the most inspiring, values-driven people working to make the world fairer, safer and more inclusive.

Huge congratulations to all the winners, including the brilliant Hannah Oyewole, winner of Women in Social Enterprise. Following in the footsteps of our own MD & Founder Yvonne Farquharson, who won this category previously. 💛👏

It was a joy to be there alongside so many amazing change-makers from the School for Social Entrepreneurs, including Robin Chu, Alastair Wilson, Anna Ling, Tofik Saad, and Richard Collier-Keywood.

A special shout-out to David Adair from PwC on his well-deserved win, and to all the inspiring finalists who are creating real impact in their communities.

Hosted brilliantly by Sara Pascoe, with uplifting performances from Aston Performing Arts Academy (APAA) and a powerful spoken word performance from Hussain Manawer, the evening was full of hope, pride and energy.

"In a world where we are bombarded with negative news stories, it is important to stop, look around, and notice all the great people and great work happening all around us. " — Yvonne Farquharson

At Breathe, we're not just about delivering programmes - we're committed to driving systemic change to healthcare systems and policies. Over the past month we're proud to have attended the UK House of Commons three times, advocating to keep evidenced-based creative approaches to healthcare on the agenda.

Today, it was an honour to meet with Alain Gregoire Maternal Mental Health Alliance (MMHA) and Simon Opher MP, as well as a fortuitous meeting with Rt Hon. Dame Andrea Leadsom - all of whom are making powerful changes to shape global maternal care - a mission so close to our heart. Together we are all committed to ensuring the mental health of parents, families and babies are prioritised.

We are big supporters of the new The 1001 Critical Days Foundation - their mission, vision and values all align perfectly with our work at Breathe Arts health Research. ☑️
