Day 7/15: Period Care 101 🤩 Let’s talk about this important information

Even if your pad or tampon isn’t full, how long you wear it really matters! Here’s your quick guide:

Pads:
• Change every 4–6 hrs
• Overnight? Change first thing in the morning
• Damp or uncomfortable? Change sooner

Tampons:
• Change every 4–8 hrs (MAX 8 hrs)
• Never sleep in a tampon longer than 8 hrs
• Even barely used = still change
• Helps prevent Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS)

Menstrual Cups:
• Empty & rinse every 8–12 hrs
• Heavy flow? Empty more often
• Clean well between cycles

Panty Liners:
• Change every 3–5 hrs
• They trap moisture & can irritate if left too long

Period Underwear:
• Wear max 8–12 hrs
• Damp or smelly? Change!
• Wash thoroughly before reuse

Why it matters:
• Bacteria grow in warm, moist environments
• Old blood = odor, rashes, infections
• Tampons left too long = TSS risk

💡 Simple rule: If you wouldn’t wear damp underwear that long, don’t keep your period product on either.

These are the top 3 hygiene questions women in Nigeria search for and the answers are simpler (and kinder) than we were taught.

Feminine hygiene is not about scrubbing harder, using stronger soap, or copying what someone else does.
It’s about understanding your body and caring for it gently.

If something stings, burns, or leaves you uncomfortable, that’s not “clean” that’s your body asking for better care.

This is Day 6 of the , where we share honest, shame-free hygiene education for women.

Share it with a sister.
And remember: healthy hygiene should never hurt.

5 ways women are hygiene-shamed into making unhealthy decisions and what to do instead.

1. “Women who get infections are dirty.”
Infections like BV, thrush and UTIs are medical conditions not a sign of poor hygiene.
Way forward: Treat symptoms early and without shame. Health is not a moral failure.

2. “A clean woman should always smell sweet.”
This belief pushes women to use scented soaps and harsh products that disrupt natural balance.
Way forward: Mild soap on the outside only. Neutral is healthy.

3. “If I can smell you, you’re unclean.”
Natural body scent changes with hormones, sweat and your cycle.
Way forward: Learn what’s normal for your body instead of panic-cleaning.

4. “Real women don’t have discharge.”
Discharge is a normal function of a healthy body, not something to be ashamed of.
Way forward: Notice changes, not presence. Consistency matters more than perfection.

5. “If you wash your pants in a washing machine, you’re dirty.”
Clean underwear is about proper washing and drying not how it’s washed.
Way forward: Clean, dry, breathable underwear is hygiene. The method doesn’t define you.

This is Day 5 of our 15 Days of Women’s Hygiene series.
Hygiene should protect your health not punish your body.

Ignore my relationship humour 😂 but If I had the chance to speak to every woman about hygiene, I wouldn’t tell her to scrub harder I’d tell her to stop shaming her body and learn how it actually works.

Hygiene is not punishment.
It’s not fear.
And it’s definitely not about meeting someone else’s standard.

Over the next 15 days, we’re talking about real hygiene from your skin, to your clothes, to the things you were never properly taught.

No myths.
No shame.
Just care, knowledge, and respect for women’s bodies.

Save this. Share it with a sister. Stay with the series. Day 4/

Stop playing guessing games with your body. You’re a busy woman, and you shouldn’t be caught off guard by your period or panic when your discharge changes texture. Real hygiene is about being proactive, not reactive. I live by app because it’s my body’s personal diary it taught me that “thicker” discharge isn’t an infection, it’s just my hormones doing their job. To stay fresh on the go, I also use ; because when you’re dehydrated, your body’s natural scents get stronger and your skin loses its glow. Tracking these isn’t “extra” it’s how you stay prepared, balanced, and confident even on your busiest days.

don’t forget that laundry sheet is amazing for getting those underwear clean and fresh too

Your body is not a science experiment for him.
He said he loves a woman who smells like roses, so now you’re washing “down there” with scented soaps and floral perfumes. Sis, no! You are meant to smell exactly how God designed you clean, natural, and balanced.🥰
When you start mixing that chemistry set of Dettol and “Oh So Lovely” scents, you aren’t being “extra clean”you’re just inviting irritation and wahala😭He’ll notice the itching and the discomfort long before he notices the lilies.
Real hygiene is simple. It’s mild soap, plain water, and trusting your body. Unless it’s a red flag like a rotten egg smell (which is your cue to see a doctor), your natural scent is enough. Stop over-treating and start trusting your balance.

Stop trying to smell like a flower garden.
Let’s be honest, sisters: Your down there wasn’t designed to smell like expensive perfume or fresh daisies. If we’re being real, trying to force that usually leads to more wahala like infections, irritation, and unnecessary stress.
True hygiene isn’t about masking scents or using flowery soaps; it’s about balance, health, and confidence.
For the next 15 days, we are dropping the shame and bringing the facts. No gatekeeping, no myths just the real scoop on staying fresh, healthy, and balanced as a Nigerian woman.
Save this post so you don’t miss a day and tag a sister who needs to hear this. Let’s learn together.
