We often get asked what is the best exercise for fat loss, and our answer often comes as a surprise to most.
Its simple...walking, or high daily step count which is the same idea.
It's something you can blend in to your lifestyle with ease and minimal effort, and the benefits of 10k steps a day consistently are massively overlooked!
Whether you accumulate them through walking outdoors, shopping, in work, hiking, commuting, strolling about listening to music or podcasts, whatever, the options to clock up them steps are endless and sometimes you don't even realise you're doing it.
It's a low impact exercise which makes it much more comfortable and enjoyable for all of us regardless of weight, It's de-stressing, accessible at all times, and doesn't affect our recovery from the gym, if anything it may aid it!
"But it hardly burns any calories.."
Yes you're absolutely right. However you need to look at the cumulative effect. Over the course of just 1 year, if you consciously ramp up your daily step count from sedentary to 10k you can easily lose 10-20lbs of fat, and that's without even taking diet and any other training in to consideration.
Now, of course you can do other more intense forms of cardio too, I'd encourage it myself, but for the average busy working adult looking to tone up and look your best, you're better off spending your limited time in the gym lifting weights and focusing on resistance based training, not on the treadmill.
So implement small habits of upping your daily step count until that habit becomes normality and I promise you you'll be amazed at the effect it will have.
