I found this picture of my very first training with in April 2017 and wow what a journey it has been so far - through fitness my teaching experience has transformed and all I can say is that you need to trust the process, the journey and the failures because they only take you from strength to strength. If you take a snapshot of a gym you will usually find the women on the cardio machines and the men in the strength area. Women are more likely to hit the steps and go to classes like aerobics and step.

But things are changing and now more than ever, there is greater awareness and understanding of the benefits of strength work for any female athlete. I say athlete because if you are working out with a goal, with a purpose, you are an athlete.

The good news is that strength training is not just for men. We need to prioritise weights to improve our bone density, reduce risks of osteoporosis, improve body composition so that our bellies don't get out of hand (know what I mean?!) and tone up.

If you are unsure where to start, you can:

✅Learn correct form first either with a friend, online or with a coach
✅Start with body weight
✅Progressively add load
✅Add supersets and drop sets for a challenge

\\CLIENT TRANSFORMATION\\
I was super excited to share Rasha's journey with you! I last posted about Rasha when she was at the start of her fitness journey and she has come so far! Here are her accomplishments:

✅Rasha weighed in at 97.4kg when she first came three months ago, and she is now 89.2kg which is just over 8kg! That's incredible!

✅She has made significant lifestyle changes such as reducing portion control, mindful eating habits and taking up regular sessions

✅She is now focusing on her heavier lifts, going from a basic bodyweight squat when we first started to using the barbell for her deadlifts and sumo deadlifts.

✅She walks wherever she can, takes the stairs at work and says NO to any sugary grazing or snacking to enable her to maintain a calorie deficit

In my next post I will share a Q&A with Rasha in which I will ask her some questions about what made her journey a success.

UNWIND and release on National Fitness Day with myself and Jaina who is a very experienced yoga instructor and mama of two.

Jaina is a yoga and meditation teacher who has been practicing for over twenty years and teaching for ten years. Yoga has always provided her with a source of strength whether overcoming physical or mental battles. The lessons she learns on and off the yoga mat form the philosophy of her teachings which she then passes onto her students.

More recently her practice serves as the foundation to be a mum to her two daughters who are three years and eight months old. Jaina believes in sharing her journey with yoga and motherhood as it provides a way to serve, connect, learn and grow from each other.

Jaina has taught classes, workshops, retreats and has a host of videos on You Tube. Currently on maternity leave her online classes will resume in October and you can find more about Jaina's journey over on her blog www.jainamistrypatel.com

CLIENT PROFILE: RASHA SHAKIR
Rasha is someone really close to my heart - and to my coaching method. I am so proud of the progress she has made. We found out this week that she has lost an ASTONISHING NINE POUNDS in three weeks. This was one of her goals alongside getting stronger and learning to lift. After a series of yo-yo diets and stopping and starting she made an intention to put her 100% into making a change to her lifestyle. Swipe across to see all the training notes I have for her!

When we talk about CORE STRENGTH did you know that it is not just a series of random ab exercises? The ''core'' is in use at all times, even when we are sitting, walking, standing, moving and sleeping. It is called the powerhouse because it plays such a vital role in ALL movements. The exercises above work on the stabilisers as well as the superficial muscles that we call 'abs' - both of which have their place. The key to good CORE strength is to include a VARIETY of exercises.

ISOMETRIC HOLDS - or planks

COMPOUND MOVEMENTS - like squats, deadlifts, kettlebell work and so forth

CLASSICAL PILATES - matwork to master coordination, flow and alignment

STABILITY WORK - from the BOSU to the stability ball, unstable surfaces are the best for core control

CONTRA LATERAL MOVEMENTS - deadbugs are fantastic in combining two planes of movement and maintaining lumbopelvic stability

Sometimes you just fancy something crunchy, fresh and feel good - you know?This is it...

INGREDIENTS
1/3 cup red cabbage, sliced
1/3 cup carrot, grated
1/2 red pepper, sliced finely
1/3 mango, sliced finely
1/2 avocado, sliced finely
1/3 cup cucumber, cubed
100g tuna, drained from a tin
2 tbsp pumpkin seeds
1 garlic clove
Juice of 1 lemon
1 tbsp olive oil

METHOD
Mix all of the ingredients except for the garlic, lemon and olive oil. Mix these separately and once you are ready to serve, pour it on top and toss well. Season to taste. DONE!

\\NEW EVENT: POSTPARTUM SOS\\
I am super excited to partner with Women's Health Physio , Clare Bourne on this great workshop for women and ALL mums on pelvic health. We will be addressing some of the unspoken issues around pregnancy and postpartum health such as incontinence, pelvic girdle pain, p***c symphysis and general healing. This feel good workshop will start with a 30 minute Pilates exercise routine focused on pelvic stability and control and will be a great introduction to the main workshop where you can get involved and be as interactive as you like. You will walk away feeling great and armed with so much information and understanding to move forward with your health. The time is now! Bookings are available by clicking on the link in my bio.
