Women all around the world express different experiences about the transitional years of menopause, and yet there’s so much focus on the
biomedical approach.

The western medicalised approach as always becomes the default but even here, many women reject that approach. And even if they don’t, there are other aspects – psycho, social – to consider 🤔🤔.

And then, there’s the vast difference in definitions and experiences among women in different parts of the world. As the menopause increasingly gains attention, let’s add voices from different geographical contexts, to expand own knowledge about their experiences, and to recognise that our 40s and 50s can be interpreted and lived vastly differently, and that we might not all want to seek medicine for a process, which for many, is not socially and culturally viewed as a
disease.

Happy International Women’s Day!! 💃🏽💃🏽❤️

Do you diet, but never get the results you want? 🥲 Maybe it's time to try something else? 👏🏽👏🏽 Come join me this weekend to start a new journey with food 🍎🍇🍒

Research tells us that there are some two thirds of people in the UK who are on a diet, most of the time. In the US, over 75% of people are trying to lose weight. That's great news for the dieting industry, but how many of us go on diets knowing they don't deliver the results we want?

How familiar is this story: You go on a diet, lose some weight, lose the willpower, and put the weight back on. Not long after, you're exploring another diet.

Here's a thing I've learned about myself, and about my clients: dieting makes me/them miserable, dieting limits our choices, dieting is all about deprivation, and some crash diets can leave us nutritionally deficient.

Healthy behaviours, on the other hand, involve making small changes over time. There are no quick fixes to being a healthy weight, there are no quick fires to finding a healthy balance. BUT, making small changes, a tweak here and there, changes behaviours, we become internally motivated, and we have a greater chance in reaching that goal we so want.

Balancing Nutrition's Community Platform launches this Saturday, 26th February, it's tagline is: Where Small Incremental Change Leads to Permanent Transformation.

The tagline completely encapsulates my work and informs my commitment to my clients, and it will now underscore my approach on the platform. So if you're forever on a diet, but don’t get the results you want, come join my new platform this weekend. Link will be available on Saturday 💃🏽😍

Spring is a great time for a reset. We often Spring clean our houses, but how often do we apply the practice to ourselves 🤷🏽‍♀️

Spring is ideal for a body reboot … with the months of hibernation coming to an end, new bird song at dawn, the emergence of new growth, our bodies are similarly ready for some recalibration.

Come join me on my new platform this Saturday – 26th February LAUNCH DATE – for a March Spring Cleanse. It’s free 😲 it’s gonna be super fun 💃🏽💃🏽, and you’ll look amazing by Easter 🥰😍

Come on now, you know you need some self-loving 😉🤗

I’ve been very quiet on social media recently, only because I’ve been planning 2022, with the launch of a new platform, and tons of workshops, challenges and much more for all us women for the coming year.

But until then, there is still a festive period to enjoy! Wishing you all a wonderful time with family and friends 🥂😍

I’m going to be running a 21-day bone health challenge soon. Some of you might be thinking, bone health, what’s that? And why that? And you wouldn’t be alone. Chats with several friends have elicited the same confused response 🤔🤔 – and then the Aha! once I explain 😄

It’s not that strange when we think about it. As women in our 40s and 50s, we should be thinking about our bones more than ever. How many of you have felt your joints and bones ache? Your muscles, tired? A sense of overwhelming fatigue? Or your lower back hurting just that little bit more as you transition through the perimenopause to postmenopause?

What about osteoporosis? Do you know what it is? Have you given it any thought? Maybe you think, well, I’m 45 and that’s an old woman’s disease. But … right … ok, we should all give it some thought given we’re living more than a third of our lives in post-menopause. A silent disease that can creep up on us, osteoporosis surreptitiously secretes calcium from our bones resulting in brittle bones, fractures and breakages years later.

Do we want to be climbing a mountain ⛰in our 70s? I do! And I’m sure I’m not the only one 💃🏽💃🏽

But also, don’t we want to be more active now?? Don’t we want to doing all the hiking, climbing, running, now?

We can help make our bones strong. There’s lots of connections between diet, our gut, stress levels, hormones and exercise and I’ll be sharing the dots over the next few weeks, and then, for the real work, I hope you’ll join me and some amazing collaborators for the challenge in September! This challenge is going to be super exciting 🥳😎

Menopausal transition

✨ The Menopausal Transition is also known as the perimenopause.

🌱 It can begin 8 to 10 years before menopause.

🍀 The average length of perimenopause is 4 years, but for some this stage may last only a few months.

⚡️During this period, the ovaries gradually produce less oestrogen.

💥 Different symptoms are often reported at different stages. For e.g., those transitioning from premenopause to perimenopause might report some increase in tenderness, stiffness and difficulty sleeping; those transitioning from pre to peri, and remaining perimenopausal for over 2 years might show a great increase in hot flushes and night sweats; while those transitioning from peri to postmenopause might notice increases in back pain.

Where you are in your menopausal transition might explain your symptoms.

🍂 The menopause is when you’ve gone without a period for 12 consecutive months.

🌳 After the 12 months, you are postmenopausal. For many, the symptoms disappear (that’s if you had them, many women don’t); for others, it takes a while longer.

Every woman is different 🌻🌹

Nettle tea:

This is a great tea for those who suffer from itchy skin, as nettles are a natural antihistamine, and, it’s also great for those who’ve sore/swollen joints. If you like foraging, and you can find it, keep an eye out for some stinging nettles.

How to: Add water to the leaves, boil, switch off and let the brew sit for some 5 mins.

Sieve it through a strainer, add some cinnamon and some raw honey (just a titch) and voila!

Or… you can get yourselves some good old-fashioned teabags 👏🏽🌟
