Today (4th February) is World Cancer Day and there’s no better moment to stress the importance of getting your free NHS health check when offered.

Getting a health check is quick and easy, while the consequences of not getting one can be anything but.

Routine health checks can help to diagnose various long-term conditions like chronic kidney disease, diabetes and even cancer.

A diagnosis is super important as timely treatment can be the crucial factor in successfully treating the condition.

We’re honoured to be taking part in the Haringey Age Well Festival 2025.

This is a truly special event which promotes ageing well and celebrates Haringey's older residents.

Co-produced with older residents, the festival opens with a colourful Purple Parade, and features:

• music and dance
• literature and storytelling
• health and wellbeing sessions
• creative and physical activities
• and much more!

Our team will be covering the health and wellbeing side of things, offering tips and tricks for aging well.

The event is free and open to all, so come along and say hi to us and all of the other organisations taking part.

Our NHS Workplace Health Checks Service pilot really resonated with staff across Haringey.

The pilot, which ran from October 2024 to June 2025, provided screening to 2,139 employees and volunteers across the borough.

The service offered a convenient way for people to get checked whose work timetable may make it difficult for them to attend a GP appointment.

We screened for a variety of long term conditions, and performed health checks on site at businesses and organisations, both public and private.

The philosophy was to bring the checks straight to the people, and it delivered.

• The Team at BOWL Kitchen in Wood Green said: ‘’We were proud to participate with the NHS Workplace Health Check programme for the wellbeing of our staff. Thank you!

• The Wood Green Mall Management Team said: ‘’It’s important that we all take control of our health, especially in busy customer-facing roles like we have within The Mall and getting a check like this was a good step towards understanding and supporting our health’'

Experience the natural beauty of Haringey while getting fit!

Our One You Haringey healthy lifestyle service have organised a 3km health walk through the beautiful green spaces of Lordship Rec and Downhills Park this June.

The walk is open to everyone, so no matter your pace or experience, we’d love for you to join us!

• Date and time: Saturday 7th June at 10am, for registration and warm up
• Location: Lordship Recreation Ground & Downhills Park
• Meeting Point: Rockstone Gate entrance, Lordship Lane, N17 6AB
• All fitness levels are welcome – bring your friends and family!

The walk will take around 45 minutes and finish at the Lordship Hub.

We will be taking part, alongside community organisation Aymara.

Our Workplace Health Checks team visited the TFL Northumberland Park Depot to deliver health checks to their crew.

We've been delivering these life saving checks directly to workplaces across Haringey as part of a national, government backed pilot scheme.

Avel, one of the TFL workers we saw had this to say:

Our award-winning GP@The Grove service is expanding into HAGA’s alcohol recovery service from May 2025.

This means more patients receiving substance misuse help will now access direct support from a GP in a setting they know and trust.

For the past two years, we’ve worked closely with The Grove to deliver accessible, compassionate healthcare to those in recovery.

Expanding into HAGA is the next step in strengthening this patient-first approach.

By embedding GPs into recovery settings, we’re supporting patients with complex needs to engage in routine care - and giving professionals the tools to make a real impact.
