Quercetin:
a plant flavonol found in many fruits and vegetables including capers, radish, cilantro, red onions, cranberries, among others. It can also be taken in the form of a supplement

Tip: When taking the supplement form, look for the pure form of quercetin. It is often combined with Vitamin C or Bromelin and if you have a reaction to it (like stomach aches), you won't be able to identify which ingredient you're reacting to. If it does hurt your stomach, try taking it in the middle of a meal.

Have you noticed that the pollen levels keep rising every year? Global warming is increasing the level of CO2. The more CO2 there is in the air, the more plants grow and produce pollen through photosynthesis. C02 also warms the earth's atmosphere (hence the name global warming) which extends the time that plants can grow and produce pollen (more warm days). Source:

What does this mean for people who already have high histamine levels? If you're allergic to pollen, your body will create more histamine, effectively causing your "histamine bucket" to overflow. This is why your histamine-related symptoms (rhinitis, watery eyes, itchy throat, skin issues) may get significantly worse in the spring.

Tips: Start taking natural antihistamines (such as Quercetin) well ahead of the spring season (1-2 months), reduce or eliminate high histamine foods and alcohol from your diet during spring, do a daily nasal rinse, change your clothes once you come in from outside, keep the windows closed in your house, don't dry your laundry outside (they may collect pollen), manage your other histamine triggers (e.g. stress).

This is *not* a post to encourage you to stop taking antihistamines. They may be necessary for your MCAS treatment protocol. This is simply a post to inform you of some of the withdrawal effects some people may experience when trying to taper off of antihistamines.
I suffered from serious withdrawal effects when I stopped taking cetirizine (also known as Zyrtec in US markets). Pruritus is the most common side effect and it typically feels like extreme itchiness and burning on your skin. For me, it was the worst in the palms of my hands and feet. Moreover, my rhinitis was uncontrollable. I stopped taking Zyrtec cold turkey when I realized that skipping even one day made my symptoms (rhinits, watery eyes, sensitive skin) 10x worse. It took about 3 weeks for the symptoms to reduce and by the 6th week, I went back to normal (i.e. pre-Zyrtec symptoms of runny nose, watery eyes etc. but not the pruritus). If you google "Zyrtec withdrawal" or "antihistamine withdrawal", you'll find a seemingly endless list of pages. There are even published medical studies on this. In hindsight, I wish I had tapered myself off of the antihistamines instead of going cold-turkey as that would have been easier on my body. If you are going through this right now, know that it will get better. And if you find that skipping a day of cetirizine makes your symptoms worse, know that you are not alone in this.
I also know many MCAS patients who started taking antihistamines and were successfully able to stop taking them without any issues. It really depends on the person and your body's response. As always, speak with your doctor or medical practitioner before making changes to your medical protocol.

I want to start sharing some of the things that have been helpful for my healing. First off, meditation is probably the thing that has had the most transformative effect on my healing. Stress is a huge trigger for my migraines and meditation has helped me manage my stress, among many other things. When the pandemic started I found it harder than ever to meditate so I switched to guided meditations and breathwork for a while.
is easily my favorite for breathwork. His insta lives are amazing and if you haven’t tried it, I would highly recommend that you do. Importantly, breathwork played a huge part in James’s own healing. You can find more about his story on his website breathwithjames.com. In the meantime, join one of the instalives. It’s conveniently scheduled at 6PM GMT which makes is easy for people on the East coast and the West coast to attend. It’s rare to feel the sense of community online but breathing with 400+ people guided by James to his serene playlist is magical 💫. There’s one today. Hope to see you there 😊.

Hi guys. I’m sorry for the hiatus. It was because of work, working on my Master’s dissertation, and just generally stressing about making the perfect looking feed on Insta - it stressed me out trying to create a consistent look and feel when all I really want to do is post information. So that’s what I’m doing to do. I don’t care about the way the feed looks anymore. I’m here to share information on health & well-being and hopefully that’s enough. This picture is a photo I took while living in Spain for a few months. I’ll be posting more from my time there because it was absolutely wonderful. I have some useful content coming up. In the link in my bio, I’ve posted an interview I did with Dr. Tina Peers on the connection between Long COVID & MCAS. I’m posting the video on my IGTV today too. I also have a great interview with the Founder of on genetic testing for HIT (hopefully later next week). It’s long but extremely informative and the Founder will walk you through exactly what to expect when you get a genetic test for histamine intolerance.
