The Assisted Dying Bill Just Passed- What Now?

Today, the House of Commons voted in favour of the Assisted Dying Bill for England and Wales. This means that terminally ill adults with less than six months to live may now request medical assistance to end their lives—under strict conditions, including approval by two doctors and a specialist panel.

As a Christian who believes in the sanctity of life- from the moment of conception to natural death, while I understand the deep pain and fear that can come with terminal illness, I also believe our response as a society should be to surround people with care, dignity, love, and support- not help them die faster.

Compassion shouldn’t mean giving up hope. It should mean better palliative care, stronger emotional support, and never allowing anyone to feel like a burden.

🙏 Let’s reflect and pray on this:

Are we doing enough to walk with the suffering- without rushing their end?

Can we advocate for healthcare that honours life in its most vulnerable moments?

What role can faith communities play in shaping a more compassionate response?
