Joining the care industry nearly 7 years ago was a big move for me, I did not know a huge amount about what went into "care" in the community or within Care Homes, the 7 years I have spent within the sector has taught me so much, I left momentarily but I realised it was part of me now. I liked caring for people, providing a safe space for people to work and also to live yet I still remain speechless about the recent events reported by the Guardian.
The majority of care providers try endlessly, everyday to ensure that those we provide care to, are safe, happy and protected from any form of abuse- behavior like this needs to be taken more seriously. I understand that there *may* be criminal charges, but two carers have just simply resigned and to date have walked away, with the only penalty being they are unable to work for the same agency, one has been dismissed and one has been "re-trained" and allowed back to work.
Utterly shocking. In these circumstances, from a care and a HR perspective, I am a firm believer that a harsher penalty should be issued. Heartbreaking. Do you agree?
