Our wonderful resident Joan recently celebrated the incredible milestone of her 103rd birthday, and it was a truly special occasion for everyone at the home. Joan was absolutely delighted to receive yet another birthday card from the King, a tradition she looks forward to each year and one that made her day feel even more memorable ππ
Knowing that Joan prefers a quieter celebration rather than too much fuss, we organised a small and thoughtful surprise gathering just for her. Her niece, granddaughter, and a few close loved ones joined us to celebrate, bringing along some lovely presents that Joan was thrilled to receive. The atmosphere was warm and relaxed, just the way Joan likes it, with plenty of smiles, gentle laughter, and meaningful moments shared together ππ
To make the day extra special, Joan enjoyed a delicious cream tea prepared especially for her, followed by a beautiful birthday cake made by our talented chef. Everyone gathered to wish her a happy birthday as she enjoyed her treats and the company of those closest to her π°β
Joan also shared some wonderful memories connected to the very place she now calls home. Many years ago, she worked at the Milk Marketing Board for 40 years until her retirement. The building once stood on the same plot where Emberbrook Care Home is now located. Joan often talks about those days and fondly says that in a way she has come back to where she started, which always brings a smile to those listening to her stories
At 103 years young, Joan remains a very independent lady with a wonderful outlook on life. When asked about her secret to living such a long and happy life, she simply says it is all about doing plenty of sport and working hard. Her positivity, independence, and life experiences continue to inspire everyone around her π
