On the spur of the moment, I had an opportunity to attend a Revanesse Masterclass in London with Dr Marcus Mehta. Luckily, it was my day off!

Dr Mehta is a distinguished international cosmetic medicine doctor and trainer. He shared his knowledge of the most advanced, evidence based techniques, leading to the highest standards of patient care.

We at Laurie Arias also care passionately about delivering consistently exceptional and natural looking results for our patients.

Patients often comment on our skin (thank you!) and ask for our skin secrets.

Practice Manager Julie made one very simple skincare switch that made all the difference.

For years, Julie struggled with dry, flaky skin on her forehead. She was using an exfoliating cleanser, believing it would help remove dead skin and improve the dryness. However, in her case, this approach made the problem worse. Over-exfoliating can disrupt the skin barrier, leading to increased dryness, irritation, and flaking.

I suggested she switch to the Obagi Gentle Cleanser instead. It may sound counterintuitive, but sometimes dry, flaky skin doesn’t need more exfoliation — it needs barrier support and gentle care.

The gentle cleanser turned out to be exactly what Julie’s skin needed. By cleansing without stripping away essential moisture, her skin was able to rebalance. Now, her forehead is smooth, hydrated, and healthy-looking — with no more dryness or flaking.

A recent survey of 2,000 UK women aged 35+ has found that 43% said their skincare routines were more complex than they used to be. And 81% said they would prefer a simpler daily regimen.

This makes perfect sense. It's far simpler to stick to a regular routine if you can keep it effective, yet simple.

The term Anti Ageing isn't used so much anymore. I now like to use Ageing Better, instead. This perfectly describes both looking, and feeling, our best selves as we get older.

At the recent Redefine Conference, eminent plastic surgeon Dr Arthur Swift had some very wise words on Ageing Better.

"Chase beauty, youth will follow, rather than the other way around."

This is my own ethos too. If we just focus on chasing youth, beauty may not necessarily come with it. Subtle and natural looking treatments, combined with healthy and glowing skin, is the key.

A facial aesthetics journey always starts with your skin. Getting it into optimal condition - healthy and glowing - sounds an ideal resolution to me.

After the fun and festivities, a consistent and simple daily routine, including all-year-round SPF and a 'hero' active ingredient or two, will pay dividends. A vitamin C serum for day and a retinol at night are my heroes. I am always happy to advise you on the right products for your own particular skin.

I'll also resolve to drink more water, get quality sleep and get out into the fresh air more often in 2026. I really enjoy reading and scribbling thoughts and ideas into my many notebooks; so I'll make time for this.

And none of the above involves giving up anything!

Common misconceptions debunked:

"Lip fillers are painful and make you look fake"

Not in my clinic.

I believe in enhancing your natural features; not altering them. I will replace the lip volume that has been naturally lost over time.

I don't believe in adding more than was ever there in the first place. This ensures facial harmony and balance, and a pleasing result.

Lip fillers may be slightly uncomfortable; but a lot can be done to minimise this. Many dermal fillers are specially formulated for lips and contain a local anaesthetic. We can also use a topical numbing cream to give the patient a more comfortable experience.

A skilled practitioner will use lip filler injection techniques to lower the risk of bruising and discomfort, and will be on hand to give you pre and post treatment advice.
