What helps a child or loved one feel truly accepted?
This Autism Acceptance Month, there’s focus on recognising differences. But in day-to-day life, acceptance is often shaped by the small things.
This might look like:
💙 Taking the time to understand what works for them
💙 Adapting routines or environments
💙 Listening without judgement
💙 Giving space to be themselves
Because no two experiences are the same, and support shouldn’t be either.
What has helped your child or loved one feel more accepted? Let us know in the comments below 👇

Effective support starts with the needs of the child, young person or adult. Everyone has different experiences, strengths and challenges, and support should be tailored.
At Healios, we focus on understanding the individual. This means:
💙 Building a full picture of each person
💙 Identifying what will make the biggest difference
💙 Shaping support around individual needs
Because better outcomes start with better understanding.

Autistic experiences aren’t always visible.
For some individuals, this can mean masking - adapting behaviour, communication or responses to fit in, often without others realising.
This might look like feeling the need to “blend in”, even when it feels exhausting or doesn’t reflect who you are. Over time, this can become part of everyday life.
As Amber Hinchcliffe, Specialist Neurodevelopmental Practitioner, shares:
“Masking can become habitual and often goes unnoticed, which can prevent a true understanding of an individual’s needs.”
When this happens, it can make it harder for people to feel understood or get the support they need.
Taking the time to understand these experiences can make a real difference.

Today marks World Autism Awareness Day and the start of Autism Acceptance Month.
It’s a moment to not only raise awareness, but to reflect on what real acceptance looks like in everyday life.
💙 In schools, it’s teachers recognising and responding to different ways of learning and communicating
💙 In the workplace, it’s creating environments where individuals can contribute in ways that enables them to thrive
💙 In relationships, it’s family members and friends building understanding and offering support that reflects individual needs
For many neurodivergent individuals and families, feeling understood can make all the difference - helping to build confidence, reduce overwhelm and access the right support at the right time.
Because when acceptance improves, lives improve too.

We are accepting autism assessment referrals for children and young people under the NHS Right to Choose framework. We have a limited number of places for assessments before the summer, so if you’re exploring an assessment for your child, here’s how to get started:
1️⃣ Speak to your GP and request Healios as your chosen provider under Right to Choose
2️⃣ Your GP will review your request and complete the Healios referral form - available here: https://eu1.hubs.ly/H0t4tKn0
3️⃣ Once your referral is submitted, our team will be in touch to guide you through the next steps
We understand this can feel like a big step. Our specialist clinicians provide clear, compassionate support throughout, helping you better understand your child’s needs and next steps.
Have a question? You can contact our dedicated team at rtc@healios.org.uk 💙

If you’ve been referred to Healios, it’s completely natural to have questions about what happens next. Our aim is to make your experience as clear, supportive and easy to follow as possible.
To help you feel prepared, here’s a simple guide to the usual steps in your Healios journey:
1️⃣ Referral received. Once we receive your referral from your local service, we’ll set up your Healios account and send you an email and text inviting you to activate it.
2️⃣ Appointment booking. Our friendly team will arrange your appointments and contact you by email or phone with the details.
3️⃣ Questionnaires. For many services, you’ll be asked to complete online questionnaires. We may also ask someone who knows you or your child well to complete questionnaires. These help us understand your or your child’s experiences and needs.
4️⃣ Attend sessions. You’ll attend online sessions with our caring clinicians through our secure digital platform.
5️⃣ Feedback and next steps. If you have had an assessment, your clinician will talk through the outcome and explain the next steps. If you have received mental health support, your clinician will review what has been learned during the sessions and discuss any recommendations moving forward.
If you have questions at any stage, our Client Operations Team is here to help by phone or email. You can also speak to your clinician for support.
Every journey is different. We’re here to support you and your family throughout.

This week marks Neurodiversity Celebration Week - a timely reminder that great minds don't think alike.
One of our expert clinicians, Charlotte Clee, shares why greater understanding of neurodiversity matters:
“Understanding neurodiversity helps us move beyond stereotypes and assumptions, recognising the wide range of ways people think, communicate and experience the world. When schools, workplaces, families and services understand neurodivergence, they can create environments that are genuinely supportive and sustainable.”
At Healios, improving access to specialist neurodevelopmental and mental health care is central to our purpose. In partnership with the NHS, our clinicians deliver evidence-based, needs-led autism and ADHD assessments and mental health support, helping individuals and families gain understanding and clarity.

We asked one of our Healios experts by experience, aged 20, what the Children’s Mental Health Week theme of ‘This is My Place’ means to them 💙
At Healios, we see every day how small actions, including listening, naming feelings, keeping routines and creating connections, can make a real difference in helping children and young people feel they belong and are accepted for who they are.

Children’s Mental Health Week 2026 has arrived. This year’s theme, ‘This is My Place’, highlights the importance of self-acceptance and belonging for children and young people.
At Healios, we will meet you where you are. Every day we see how much it matters for children and young people to access support from a place where they feel safe, comfortable, and accepted - whether that’s at home, at school, or somewhere familiar. Feeling secure and valued in your environment can help you to open up and engage more fully with therapy.
Belonging and self-acceptance also have a powerful impact on mental health and wellbeing. Whether through hobbies, school, pets or family, having a place where children and young people feel included and accepted helps them thrive.
What does ‘your place’ mean to you, or to a young person you’ve supported? Share your thoughts below 👇
