We’ve wrote (written? Wow, not a good start) a book!

It’s been published via and Vermilion, which means we now share a publisher with Glennon Doyle (Untamed) Brené Brown (Rising Strong) Gabor Maté (Hungry Ghosts) and Professor Steve Peters (The Chimp Paradox).

You can pre-order it now.

What do you think of the cover?

Brb, just off to do a nervous poo.

It's been just over a week since launching the UK's first-ever on-demand mental health service.

Two highlights:

1. Every single person walking in and saying: "wow, it is beautiful in here". This is how environments for mental health support should feel. When we go for therapy, we should feel: “it is a good thing that I am here”.

2. Walk-ins. People who have never had therapy before popping in for a session, just because they saw us on the High Street. Incredible.

As therapists, we aren't huge fans of small talk. But since the pandemic, we have noticed how important these short dopamine-providing interactions are for our mental health. We need small talk. Not just for dopamine hits, but for what it enables.

Small talk is essential platonic foreplay to deep and meaningful conversations. It reminds us that we are in fact human and alive. No matter how banal the topic can be, small talk reminds us that we are in the world. It reassures us that we not just swimming around frantically in our own minds, caught by a riptide of overthinking and self-critical inner dialogue.

Be bold and excessively generous in your expressions of love. However embarrassing it feels to give it, however awkward it feels to receive — we need it. These emotions are merely indicators that something in us is being seen, that parts of us are being found and unvoiced needs are being met.

Love’s executioners in-coming.

There is huge a difference in “falling” in love and “standing” in love. Keep swiping for £50 off couples therapy with us.

Instead of chasing things that temporarily boost our self-esteem, the challenge is in measuring our self-worth by who we are at our core.

To have good self-worth, we don’t need to be perfect, we only need to accept ourselves as we are at this moment in time and see ourselves as a whole, despite whatever we may feel we are lacking.

It’s about approaching ourselves with compassionate curiosity. It is about knowing that:

your to-do list
your job
whether you have children or not
your social media following
your age
your appearance
the amount of money you have
other people
how much you go to the gym
the number of friends you have

Does not define you.

It’s all good and well shouting ‘love yourself’ at the top of our voices, but when that’s heard by those who find it hard, those who experienced their needs going unmet, of having countless disappointing relationships, prolonged periods of isolation or loneliness, abusive partners or emotionally neglectful parents — it can leave them feeling like they’re failing or that there is something flawed in them.

This being said, if self-love is working for you, you do you hun. X

We’ve opened up shop. The UK’s first ever on-demand mental health service, right in the High Street in Shoreditch.

We will be open seven days a week offering access to a good conversation to a qualified person. Not just for when people are feeling s**t or overwhelmed — but for when they want to proactively work on their mental health. Just like they would go to the gym for their physical health.

The space will also be a new home for workshops and group sessions, a meeting point for like-minded people wanting to do the work with other people. A place for community.

We know that it doesn’t take “everyone in the world” to positively shift the culture around mental health, but only a small, determined group who refuse to shy away from the conversation.

This is you. Everytime you walk through the door, you give permission to others to do the same. Thank you for being with us on this journey.

Wherever you’re at, however you’re feeling — you’re not alone in it. We’ve got you.

Childhood matters. More than we would ever like to imagine.

The more time we spend denying or avoiding the reality of these experiences, the more of a hard time we have understanding our behaviour.

We experience so much shame for the dysfunctional and destructive patterns we find ourselves acting out in adulthood because we had, on the whole, ‘supportive families’.

We experience this shame, confusion and misunderstanding because the challenges of our childhood are broader, more nuanced and more complex than we account for.

The more we can look at our childhoods with care, compassion and curiosity, the less likely we are to unconsciously rely on maladaptive patterns or ways of coping when we face challenges in adult life.
