If your child is feeling unwell, you can use this very helpful symptom checker below to gain a better understanding of what might be happening and where to get treatment.

This will help ensure your child receives the most appropriate care in the right place, at the right time, from the most appropriate team.

You will find information here on some of the most common conditions and symptoms that affect children. The conditions are in alphabetical order so you can find the right one quickly and easily.

The traffic light system will guide you through what to do in different situations:

Urgent / emergency situations fall under red symptoms
Less urgent situations fall under amber symptoms
Non-urgent situations fall under green symptoms

The latest respiratory report shows influenza activity has again increased across all surveillance indicators.

Flu is spreading, you can help stop the spread by:
• Washing your hands regularly
• Catching coughs and sneezes in a tissue
• Minimising contact with others
• Getting vaccinated if you are eligible

A Ward at Altnagelvin Hospital has been temporarily closed to admissions due to an increase flu among patients.

We are appealing to the public to avoid visiting the hospital if they are feeling unwell, and have coughs, colds or flu-like symptoms; or have any infectious conditions.

Visitors are reminded to thoroughly wash their hands before and after visiting other parts of the hospital. Visitors should visit only one patient whilst at the hospital, refrain from sitting on hospital beds and not move among patients and from ward to ward when visiting. We also would encourage everyone eligible to get their flu and COVID-19 Booster vaccinations to boost their immune systems and to protect themselves and others from serious illness and the spread of the flu this winter.

As a precautionary measure and to prevent any further spread of the flu, a decision was made that Ward 25 be temporarily closed to new admissions. The situation is being closely monitored and we plan to reopen the ward to admissions as soon as possible.

The Trust's Infection Prevention and Control team is continuing to provide advice. Increased infection control measures have been taken.
