Postpartum is hard enough without throwing t1d into the mix. Hormones, sleep deprivation, breast feeding, recovery. Ugh it's a lot.

And t1d never lets go.

So cracking a brief window of stable glucose levels is a welcome relief!

Even though glucose levels really aren't my priority now when I have a little squish to squeeze.

How did you cope with t1d postpartum? Share your tips below!!

He's here, our sweet little boy. Max Charlie. The spit of his big brother and the apple of our eyes ❤️

After a rough pregnancy and an anxiety-inducing last few weeks, we're thrilled he's here.

I'll share his birth story in the weeks to come. Spoiler alert- t1d played ball, but like my first labour, a few other things cropped up.

But for now, we're home, we're safe, and we're very very happy

Virtual show of hands - who feels apprehensive about a pregnancy with t1d?

Er, that would be me. Maybe you too?

And it's no surprise. It's likely that as soon as you hit child-bearing age, your clinic would have asked you about your fertility plans. Even if you didn't have any on the immediate horizon.

But always being asked reinforces the seriousness of pregnancy with t1d. And it puts us on edge.

But I promise that navigating a healthy pregnancy and living with t1d are not mutually exclusive. It's just a bit harder.

And you don't have to do it alone. This is where the T1D Pregnancy Companion comes in.

Hosted on the marvellous this guide is full of interactive sections, nutritional principles, and emotional support to give you the 360, rounded care you deserve.

DM me for more details, or find the link in my bio.

If you’re a woman with type 1 diabetes who wants to get pregnant, you’ve probably already been told what could go wrong.

Many times.

By people who don’t live in your body.

You carry the cognitive load every day:
⬛️ The constant glucose juggle
⬛️ The worry that one bad number could mean you’ve failed your baby
⬛️ The exhaustion of advocating for yourself in appointments that lack person-centred care

You’re not scared because you’re irresponsible.
You’re scared because you care deeply.

How do I know? Because I've navigated this territory twice myself. It's a tough gig, but it's not impossible. And you'd probably benefit from extra resources.

Introducing, the T1D Pregnancy Companion. Something I've created for exactly this moment in your health journey.

To replace fear with facts, and confusion with confidence.

It's a thorough guide that meets you wherever you're at on your type 1 diabetes fertility journey.

Full of evidence-based recommendations, practical interventions, and a toolkit that looks after your mind just as well as it looks after your time in range.

The interactive guide is hosted on the wonderful platform. There is also a sliding scale payment wise to make this resource as accessible as possible.

Happy diaversary to me! 💙💙💙

Blummim' heck, 28 years. A lifetime of life with this life-changing condition.

That's a lot of life in there.

And whilst i come on here and try to show that diabetes never holds me back, I'd be kidding you (+ me) in saying it was an easy ride.

It's not. Despite the number of years I've had it.

I still got bummed out, caught out, experience burnout and get sick of the 'have you taken paracetamol?' Question when you dial in a failed dexcom sensor.

But whilst t1d has taken, it has also given ☆

This community! A drive! A determination! A career! And for that, I will always be thankful.

Happy diaversary to me. And happy diabetes awareness month. Cheers 🍻

Who is totally bummed out by challenging morning glucose levels?

Who feels the morning rush of doing all the lifey things that gotta be done, and wishing blood glucose just played ball so you can get on more easily?

If this is you, you're not alone. Managing mornings (the dreaded dawn phenomenon) comes up in 1:1 sessions with all of my clients at one point or another.

It's a tricky time of day with our normal circadian rhythms giving us a dose of stress hormones to get us up and out, but this indirectly raising glucose levels can be unhelpful for the t1ds among us.

Adopting a holistic, 360 approach is the way I play it. This covers all bases. But it can feel relentless work, and I get that.

That's why I've compiled a free 16-page guide to navigating the dawn phenomenon that includes nifty nutrition, gentle movement and self care to help you start your day in the best blood sugar balanced place.

You're not going to want to miss it!

Marketing my work is hard.

No offence to the folks who can navigate this by offering 3-step protocols, or blood glucose blueprints for hacking your diabetes, or 'if you copy me you'll get the same results too' kind of statements.

(No shade mostly because I've offered these types of marketing strategies before myself.)

But what goes on in my clinic room is so different and unique to each person I work with. My programmes last 12 weeks and I have no idea at week 1 where we'll be at the end. But I have been doing this long enough to know *something good* will come from the relational focus and intent of my partnerships with clients.

But knowing *something good* is not a marketing strategy, lol.

Instead, I've written a blog showcasing 3 mini client journeys, to share the breadth and depth of this work, and the psycho-nutritional interventions I might lean on (3 years training in nutrition, 5 years training in psychology) with whomever is infront of me.

Enjoy! https://www.bethedwardsnutrition.com/blog-posts/miniclientjourneys

Food feeling a bit much for you right now?

I'm not surprised if that's the case. T1D places a huge focus on what and how you eat. You may feel driven to control your intake in an effort to manage glucose levels, but this predisposes you to an increased risk of food challenges.

I've been there myself, and latest research suggests around 1/4 of all t1ds report disordered food behaviours.

This is why I've spent the last 6 months completing an in-depth psychology and nutrition disordered eating training, to better support you in clinic.

If you think your food relationship could benefit from support, and you want food to feel less heavy or challenging, I'd love to help you.

Language in the type 1 diabetes space can be totally wild.

I've experienced it first hand, and indirectly too, through what has been said to my clients.

Language is so powerful, yet it can be pretty sloppy in the chronic health arena, especially when it comes to diabetes (& more so for people living with t2d).

Now, I'd love a world where type 1 diabetes got more airtime and therefore more understanding, but I also realise that it's *not all about us* and I don't expect the the population to understand the nuances and complexities of t1d. Especially if you've never had any experience of it.

But, my one request would be - please ask us and let the lived experiences of t1ds come to the fore, rather than injecting (pun klaxon) any assumption or misinformation that's been heard through the press etc.

What do you guys think?

What would help you from a language point of view?
