On Friday I’m 10 weeks post chemotherapy & radiotherapy. I’ve still got a little bit of soreness on the roof of my mouth (the tonsil cancer had gone into the soft palette but only a tiny bit) and my tongue is still sore from the radiotherapy, however, I have just eaten a whole egg mayo sandwich on brown bread from M&S! Apart from the crust, because my mouth is still a bit dry, hopefully my saliva glands will be fully functional again soon, either way it’s not stopping me eating! I feel stronger now within myself and I’ve started some weight bearing exercises as well as having my hair done yesterday, last time I went to the hairdresser was end of Nov last year! One thing I have noticed recently is that I’ve lost some of my confidence 🤷‍♀️ I’ve seen lots of other people going through cancer saying the same thing though so maybe it’s normal? I’m now editing the next episode of the podcast though and treated myself to a new microphone, that is me in my happy place!

I put some flowers on this grave today, for the little girl that will feature on the next episode of The Unsettled Dead. The vicar just happened to see me and came running over, long story short, pots of flowers are not allowed anymore, and so I’ve brought it home with me… I’m sure the little girl knows they are really for her though, because with that vicar coming over I’ve ended up with a book from him, that details some very interesting people also buried in this graveyard and his parting words to me were ‘please tell their stories too’ God bless him, I will do my best, and I’ll definitely be going to a service at this church too.

If you’d have asked me last week if I’d be eating a Caesar salad with halloumi and a cod fish finger, I’d have said no. So much can change with cancer treatment recovery in a week, never underestimate yourself, I’ll probably only eat a few mouthfuls but it’s progress!

I feel as though I’m getting my old self back! Right now I’ve got a flu bug so I’m not feeling great with it, but re the cancer treatment I’m now 9 weeks on from the radiotherapy & chemotherapy, I’ve still got a sore mouth, but I’ve eaten a battered fish from the chippy tonight 😂 with gravy and mushy peas 😂 if you’re not from up north you’ll not understand the gravy thing 🤣 so eating that is a huge milestone for me! I’ve been living off medical shakes since Christmas Day! My cancer was in my left tonsil, my soft palette and a lymph node in my neck, I was stage 2. I’ve got my pet scan third week in April 🙏 Slowly but surely I’m getting back to normal, if you’re on this journey keep going, fight the fight, and remember your best is good enough, some days you’ll feel brave, some days you’ll stay in bed and be scared of your own shadow, it’s all normal, just remember you’re not on your own. I’m with you all 🙏
