The Empower Project is preparing an application for the National Lottery Community Fund - Empowering Young People Programme. This will be based on children and young people facing a variety of transitions which could be moving from Primary School to Secondary School and thinking about a variety of social settings such as relationships, friendships, or simple things like doing shopping, joining clubs, thinking about work and their career route.

Could you please take a few minutes to complete the following survey?

I have been quiet on here the last while, but that’s simply because I have been so busy working with children and young people to help them as they navigate this often challenging world.

As it is Mental Health Awareness Week, I am reflecting on the wonderful opportunities I have had to support children and young people.

I have been in a number of schools this academic year delivering Fresh Minds Education workshops, some focusing specifically on dealing with change and transitions.

I have returned to face to face counselling at The Therapy Rooms. after taking some time off to focus on delivery of work in schools.

Most recently I have had the opportunity to deliver workshops in Sperrin Integrated College.

I am very grateful to have all of these opportunities to work with children and young people, equipping them with strategies to protect their emotional well-being and build resilience, whatever lies ahead for them.

I am super proud of P3B who led assembly for Key Stage 1 this morning. Every child participated by sharing all that they have learned with me over the last five weeks.

They went through each letter of AMBER and sang Strong Like a Mountain beautifully. They also did the Bucket Fillers Pledge to reflect the importance of filling everyone’s bucket with kindness, including your own.

Thanks to Miss Canavan and Mr McKeever for all their wonderful preparation with the children. Last but certainly not least, a very special word of thanks to the children - you really are amazing 🌟

Today I finished my Fresh Minds Education GROW Programme with Primary 5A, 5B and 5C in Holy Family Primary School.

What a way to round off the delivery of this wonderful programme for this school year. I felt so much love and appreciation for the wonderful work of all the children in this fantastic school.

Amber has been embraced by the children and I really believe that they will use the tools and strategies they have learned to help cope with tricky feelings and wobbly days.

A very special mention to Deirdre in Primary 5C today who brought me in some cake to celebrate my birthday and to all the children in this class - I received 23 birthday cards, handmade by each child. Every single card is very special to me and I am honestly touched by this beautiful gesture.

Amber and I hope you all have a lovely Summer break and the great news is, Mr McCormack has asked us to come back again in September 🥰

Today Amber and I finished a four week Fresh Minds Education GROW Programme with Primary 6/7 in St Patrick's Primary School Moneymore.

As well as learning about the Amber Approach, we have also focused on Gratitude, Character Strengths, Expressing Worries and Visioning.

The children also got to pick a Positive Affirmation today thanks to CYPSP

Best wishes to all these wonderful children in achieving the dreams that they so carefully articulated today on their Vision Boards.

Amber, Bamber and I finished working with Primary 5, Primary 6 and Primary 7 today.

We are absolutely delighted with how well the staff and pupils have embraced the wonderful Fresh Minds Education GROW Programme.

We discussed different ideas for embedding the AMBER Approach in each class. The children really are the teachers now.

They were thrilled with their very own classroom Bamber and were delighted to get to spend some time with Amber too.

We are back again on Monday with Primary 3 and Primary 4 and we can’t wait! 🐶😊🐾🌈

Amber and I are just delighted to be working with Holy Family Primary School in Magherafelt.

Look at this amazing Group Art Project completed by P3A, P3B and P3C when we finished our Fresh Minds Education Fresh Little Minds GROW Programme.

We are now starting the 6 week programme with P4A, P4B and P4C.

Thanks to all the pupils and the teaching staff for their wonderful work and commitment to the GROW Programme.

Children”s Mental Health Week is from 7-13 February 2022. This years theme is Growing Together.

I am absolutely privileged to be able to work with children every week delivering the highly acclaimed Fresh Minds Education Fresh Little Minds GROW Progrmme. This is very fitting for this years theme of Growing Together.

The GROW Programme teaches children how to use the AMBER Approach to improve their emotional well-being;

Anchor
Move
Breathe
Express
Relax

Thanks to St Peter’s Primary School, Moortown, Holy Family Primary School, Magherafelt and Ballylifford Primary School for the opportunity to work with the beautiful children in their wonderful schools.

Investing in our children’s mental health now will make such a difference to them in the future!

Wishing you all a peaceful Christmas and health and happiness in 2022.

I finished a follow on Fresh Minds Education GROW+ Programme with Primary 1/2 and Primary 3/4 in St Patrick's Primary School Moneymore this week.

Again I am totally blown away with how well this wonderful school has embraced this programme.

“Be a Rainbow in Some Else’s Cloud” was the theme they chose for the work we did on how we show kindness to each other at school.

Thanks so much for inviting me back to continue working together to embed the AMBER approach to mental health and resilience for children.

I look forward to returning again in the new year to focus specifically on GROWing in preparation for transition with Primary 7.

Today I completed the Fresh Minds Education GROW Programme with Primary 5 and Primary 6 - another 61 Fresh Little Minds in this wonderful school. Thank you to each and every one of them for all their contributions over the last six weeks - Amber and I have loved our time with you 😍

We were blown away by the display that Primary 5 have created for “Kindness Week” this week! They used the “Bucket Fillers Pledge” as a centrepiece for their wonderful creation. Kindness really is our Super Power and remember it isn’t about grand gestures - one kind word or act can lead to another, and another…….let’s start a kindness chain reaction and keep it going!
