Willow Adult Care

Willow Adult Care We offer an adult care service that provides consistent high-quality person-centred care and support. Both directors are actively involved.

Willow Adult Care was established in 2019 by two directors with extensive experience in social care, with a vision to develop an adult care provision providing consistently high-quality care throughout Kent, and where person-centred care and support is a key focus of the organisation’s culture and core values. We provide domiciliary care including live-in care through a highly promoted culture of excellence in service delivery which staff are proud to be associated with and are passionate about, with a strong recognition that high-quality care should form part of who we are and not merely what we do. Our care packages reflect, with consultation from the clients and their families, their hopes and preferences regarding their care needs. One, the Registered Manager, is a qualified social worker with over 12 years post qualification experience in children’s social care with both the local authority and independent sector. In the earlier years of her career, she worked as a carer for adults for over 5 years, predominantly working as a live-in carer and in 2018 as a carer for a domiciliary service. She has also worked as a Deputy Fostering Manager and Senior Practitioner, responsible for the supervision of several social workers and related strategic and operational aspects of the service. She brings vast service delivery and strategy implementation experience to the service. The other director, the Nominated Individual, is a Managing Director of a not-for-profit independent fostering agency which has been in operation for over 17 years. He has over 15 years business strategy development, implementation, and oversight, as well as operational experience. He brings service development and compliance transferable experience and skills to the service. Safeguarding our clients is our ultimate priority. We work diligently to ensure our clients’ lives and well-being are safe in our care. The staff are safely recruited by consistently following our staff recruitment policy and procedures. Our staff are trained and supported to understand the task and nature of their caring role, their responsibilities, and expectations, and to comply with all regulations. A culture which promotes the importance of training at all levels of the service is encouraged to ensure the message is clear for any staff joining the service.

It can be easy to retreat into the pleasing comfort of an armchair,
particularly during the colder months.
But taking life too easy can actually speed up the slowing-down process of later life. It’s never
too late to start being more active or begin an exercise program. Regular exercise can help reduce the impact of several diseases, such as osteoporosis, diabetes,
high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke. Regular exercise can also reduce arthritis-related
pain, improve sleep, prevent falls and fractures, and improve low mood and memory.
In fact, taking regular exercise is one of the best things you can do to remain independent.
The good news is that any exercise is good for you. You don’t need to go to a gym! Try to find
things that can be part of your everyday routine, such as simple chair-based exercises, walking to
the shops, or things that are fun, such as dancing or playing bowls. source : https://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/men60-plus/Documents/Age UK and NHS A Guide To Healthy Ageing.pdf

As you age, it is normal to notice changes in your vision. A few common changes for older adults include:
• Losing the ability to see up close
• Having trouble distinguishing colours, such as blue from black
• Needing more time to adjust to changing levels of light
These problems are often easily corrected. Glasses, contact lenses, and improved lighting may help and enable you to maintain your lifestyle and independence.
Your risk for some eye diseases and conditions increases as you grow older, and some eye changes are more serious. Keep your eyes as healthy as possible by getting regular eye exams so any problems can be spotted early. source : https://www.nia.nih.gov/health/aging-and-your-eyes

Myth: Depression is normal and to be expected in older adults
Many assume that the isolation and loneliness that is often coupled with growing older means that older people will automatically suffer from depression as they age. In reality, studies show that older adults are actually less likely to be depressed than younger adults. Though depression can, of course, occur in senior citizens, they also are likely to benefit from having long-lasting personal relationships, as well as happy memories from throughout life to bring them joy.

Your feet have been constant fellow travellers throughout your life,
but they may be showing signs of strain. Healthy feet are essential for
comfort and safe walking and the good news is that there are lots of
things you can do to look after them.
Look after your feet
Painful and uncomfortable feet aren’t a natural part of
growing old or something to put up with.

Myth: When you get older, you will inevitably experience dementia or another memory disorder
One of the biggest fears many people have about aging is what they view as inevitable memory loss or disorders like Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. “Mild forgetfulness” is to be expected as we age, and occasionally misplacing your keys or mixing up appointments on your calendar does not directly correlate to a memory loss disorder. Continuing to stimulate your brain with new activities as you grow older, however, can help you in your efforts to stay sharp. Pursuing interests like reading, painting, playing games like sudoku or chess, and listening to and playing music can keep the mind active.
