Today we will end last week’s rewind of perinatal mental health awareness week with reviewing RECOVERY.

Recovery looks different for everyone; likewise, so does support. But the main message we would like to share with you today in carrying on the discussion from last week is that recovery CAN and DOES happen. A positivity pot of virtual resources has been made available using the hashtag . Many mums have documented their own recovery as a resource to let you know you are not alone, recovery is possible, and that you can get help. We hope you have been able to engage with this recap from last week as we look ahead to the future and consider the important aspects we have covered in perinatal mental health, what it is, ways we can support ourselves, those we love, and the resources that are available to us. We hope that you start taking each day with self-care. Even just a little bit can make a difference!

Be patient with yourself. And remember, you are not alone.

CAPRI-Voc Rewind from last Tuesday

What does good support look like?

This is a significant topic for us all right now as each of us experiences new trials facing the changes around COVID19 with social distancing restrictions and other limited areas of access to resources… This is particularly salient to mums! Today we are looking at what good support looks like during this challenging time. Highlighted below are some of the excellent resources available for our mums to access. Do you have any other great supportive resources? We’d love for you to share them with us!

Mums Aid – counselling service available online.

Last week on Monday of Maternal Mental health week, PMHP provided everyone with a great opportunity to discuss what exactly maternal mental health is. If you weren’t able to see the Well Aware Live – What is Maternal Mental Health with Dr Caroline Walker and Helen Brown, please check it out here: https://www.facebook.com/wellwestcliff/videos/536123536957919/

Wirral Maternity Voices Partnership also provided a great video discussing Maternal Mental Health on Monday. Please check that out here: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=691202101706109

We’ve attached some of our favourite graphics to have a look through from the day as well.

Improving the lives of children and adolescents with parents with mental illness (CAPRI) is the main focus of our research in investigating language development in infants 9-18months old. If you would like more information or know someone who might be interested in participating in our research, please connect with us! We would love to speak with you more about how you can help make a difference.

As we come to a close on Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week for 2020, we would like to wish everyone in the USA a Happy Mother’s Day and also provide a brief summary from this weeks event and what exciting things to expect next week!

If you weren’t able to participate in the event this week, don’t worry! Every day of every week is the perfect time for us to add some extra care and check in with our mental health, especially as mums, and especially right now.

This year’s theme for Maternal Mental Health Week is “Supporting mums during difficult times”. It’s given us the opportunity to discuss support through alternative resources during social distancing.

In the coming week, CAPRI-Voc will have a rewind of last week’s daily hashtags to give us an extra opportunity to discuss these invaluable topics.

Please see the link below for more information and some of the exciting things we will be reposting and discussing from the week before!

We have had wonderful feedback from our research participants! Thank you for all of the overwhelming support from the mums and babies who have participated in our research. Your time has been invaluable to us and will help so many others as we continue to understand more about the developing brain. Here are just a few testimonials from our amazing participants about their experience:

“The study is very interesting. It’s really lovely to see your child develop. Even though we don’t get the results directly, it’s fun to see how your child has improved between the 12-month and 18-month sessions.”
Mum, age 28

“I’ve really enjoyed giving back to other people in this small way. I’ve felt like I have made a difference by participating.”
Mum, age 34

“It’s been a really easy experience because they were able to come to my home for each visit. I was nervous about the fNIRS scan at first, but the team is very professional and the fNIRS system is actually not scary at all.”
Mum, age 31

Please feel free to contact us if you are interested in participating.
