This week our Clinical Skills Training Team worked with specialist carers to build skills alongside our core values:

This week we delivered Assisting and Moving People training for a fantastic group of care professionals working in social care settings.

Through high-quality simulation, the session focused on:
✔ Safe use of a range of moving and handling equipment
✔ Working confidently in confined spaces
✔ Effective communication to support safer care delivery

The feedback speaks volumes:

The last 10 days have been a whirlwind of activity, and we wouldn’t have it any other way!

✅ We partnered with Bolton College, equipping teaching assistants with the skills to support a student with a tracheostomy.
✅ We worked with Away Day Care Trafford, delivering training to two groups of care staff in Epilepsy & Buccal Midazolam as well as Enteral Tube Theory & Familiarisation – laying the foundation for staff to grow their confidence and competence.
✅ We also provided Enteral Tubes training and React to Red sessions for nurses and senior carers, strengthening knowledge and patient safety in practice.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending the Becoming Simulator Faculty event at Alder Hey.

It was a fantastic opportunity to join fellow Clinical Skills Educators and explore how simulation can support deeper learning.

Some great takeaways around structured debriefing really helped to dispel the fear around “getting it right”, leaving me feeling more confident about facilitating powerful learning experiences.

I’m excited to build on this foundation and bring more of this into the work we’re doing at Lagan’s Healthcare.

🚨 Exciting News: Returning to Direct Observation Assessment Methods! 🚨

As the health and social care industry moves back to Direct Observation for assessment, it’s essential to ensure that learners receive comprehensive, hands-on evaluations that truly reflect their journey.

According to Skills for Care’s guidance:
Direct observation should be carried out by a qualified and competent assessor in person, with the learner in the workplace.
Observations must take place over an appropriate period of time, reflective of the learner’s entire qualification journey, not just a 2-hour window.

The amount and duration of these observations will depend on factors such as the qualification level, learner’s individual needs, and workplace circumstances.
