Celebrating International Day of Older Persons 2022: The Resilience and Contributions of Older Women. (1st October)

This year the Greater Manchester Ageing Hub are coordinating a communications toolkit for partners to promote an International Day of Older Persons campaign.

Following feedback from partners, they are pleased to announce the GM-specific campaign theme is:

'She will be heard - celebrating older women's resilience and contributions'

The key messages to get across are:
• Women over 65s are the fastest growing age demographic in Greater Manchester. Let’s challenge the invisibility older women often experience and celebrate the diversity of women in later life.
• Let’s celebrate the huge economic and social contribution older women make to Greater Manchester, recognising older women as valuable not vulnerable.
• Older women’s voices need to be heard so that Greater Manchester is a great place for all women and girls to grow older.
We are keen to promote any projects or activities partners have been involved in that build older women’s resilience or recognise older women’s contributions within these themes. For example, do you have any relevant events or activities that you’d like to promote? Are there any stories, photos or case studies you can share? Perhaps you’ve got some artwork or a podcast or you’ve done some research – you’re welcome to share existing content or create something new.

To be added to the mailing list for the communications toolkit, or to send any content please email Joe De Paola (joseph.depaola@greatermanchester-ca.gov.uk) or Jo Garsden (Jo.Garsden@greatermanchester-ca.gov.uk) by September 16th

Ring and Ride is a service to meet the needs of people who find it difficult or are unable to access the general transport network, either part or all of the time. It is a door-to-door minibus service with drivers who are trained in passenger assistance. To be eligible to use the service, passengers must hold one of the following:
• TfGM travel pass for disabled people; or
• TfGM travel plus pass for disabled people; or
• TfGM travel pass for older people, be 70 or over and have difficulty walking; or
• TfGM travel vouchers for disabled people

As a result of the pandemic, the service has seen a significant reduction in numbers. Initially, services were suspended entirely due to safety concerns, but were later reinstated with reduced vehicle numbers. Demand is currently being monitored; patronage and requests are around 50% of those in 2019/2020.

TfGM want to engage with interested groups and organisations about the Ring and Ride service, to help improve the service and ensure there is equal access to those who need it.
We’re looking to understand your organisation’s views on:
• Accessibility of the service
• Availability of the service
• Barriers to use
• Fares
• Satisfaction with the service

To complete the survey, please visit: https://surveys.tfgm.com/snapwebhost/s.asp?k=164682665143.

Deadline 3rd July

Please note this survey is not intended for individual users of Ring and Ride. If individual users would like to provide feedback, please also signpost them to: flexibletransport@tfgm.com.

Research shows that an estimated £70 million of Pension Credit is currently unclaimed in Greater Manchester with around 36,000 eligible recipients not claiming. With the cost-of-living crisis, it’s so important that older residents don’t miss out what they are entitled to, including Attendance Allowance, Housing Benefit and Pension Credit, to support their growing household bills.

GMCA have developed a toolkit to be used by local authorities and partners to promote the campaign – which includes a communications and engagement plan, social media assets, posters and data packs for each borough.
