Join us for Composting Futures, a day of workshops, hands-on experiments, and live demonstrations to celebrate the installation of Compost Computer at community gardens, Platt Fields Manchester.
Created in response to the climate crisis and the dominance of energy-intensive big tech infrastructures, Compost Computer is an off-grid server powered by bio-energy from decomposing organic waste - compost. The energy created will power FutureEverything’s newly designed website, created using low-carbon principles and lightweight code.
In collaboration with the University of Arts London Critical Climate Computing team, FutureEverything, MUD, Sow the City, and The University of Manchester, we invite you to meet the teams, explore the low-carbon ideas behind the Compost Computer, and discover how compost is essential, not just in the project, but to healthy ecosystems.
Workshop activities include:
• Composting workshop with Sow the City
• Techniques for testing soil fertility with University of Manchester and MUD
• Approaching compost as kin, with FutureEverything
• Demonstrations of the Compost Computer hardware and software with University of Arts London
• Coding workshop with the Compost Computer creators
