From frustrated in the gym to shape of his life smashing races…

Mike was someone showing up every week, training hard, eating what he thought was right

But still hated what he saw in the mirror

Feeling soft despite the effort

Second guessing every action

Knowing deep down that something wasn’t clicking

We worked on changing the structure not the effort

And this is what happened…

✅ 22lbs of body fat gone

✅ Hyrox Solo race

✅ Hyrox Doubles

✅ Half marathon in 1:33

✅ Functional fitness competitions

✅ Having his top off at festivals confident in his body

✅ Moved into a muscle building phase

His body finally matched the effort

Mike you are an absolute legend and I am so proud of everything you have and will continue to achieve in the journey

If this is you right now, frustrated and second guessing despite the work you’re putting in

The rise of Hyrox and running in recent times is great HOWEVER there’s also a huge negative I see that so many guys get sucked into

They think training for Hyrox will build them an athletic body and just thrash themselves in classes and at the track

And in reality miss the 3 most important things when it comes to building a body that looks like you train

1) Progressive strength training
2) Structured conditioning work
3) Fuelling training properly pre & post session

That’s how you go from feeling embarrassed about the after race photos to feeling confident taking your shirt off where you feel proud of how you look

A mistake I see so many guys making is they treat every run like a race…

Max effort

Working at threshold

Pushing for the faster pace

Whilst this all might feel productive

Over time fatigue happens

You can’t shake the plateau

And at the end of the day you feel like no improvement has been made over the last 6+ months

Reason being is that you never give your body the chance to recovery and feel good

Running performance doesn’t come from putting yourself in a hole every run

It comes from having structure

With a mix of: easy runs, long runs, intervals, tempos and hard efforts

With recovery all built in and planned!

Doing this right will allow you to actually get faster rather than just being more tired…

How to train for Hyrox if you have 5 days a week available

The biggest mistake I see men making when it comes to Hyrox training is this ⬇️

‘Too much intensity with no structure’

You think that the answer to success is harder work

Yet you do random sessions, jump in on classes, run with your mates with no structure

And yeah it might feel productive and that you “I worked hard today”

But you know what’s more productive?

Actually seeing progress…

Here is a simple 5 day training split template to follow to give you structure, progression and clarity

3 x Strength
1 x Interval Run
1 x Hyrox Conditioning

This is how you will get stronger, faster and build a body that looks like you train!

The greatest gift you can give yourself is a fit body

It can’t be won… it must be earned

You can win the lottery and get rich

But you cannot win a fit body

The person you become along the journey to a fit body is what will ripple through the rest of your life to become the best version of yourself in every area!

And yes… these are the kind of thoughts I have when I’m deep into a run.. Happy Friday team!

Adam was the classic example of a guy who felt like he was doing everything right on paper…

👉🏼 He was training 5+ times per week

👉🏼 Doing Hyrox sessions

👉🏼 Running regularly

👉🏼 Going to classes

👉🏼 And even training hard with his mates

But still felt like he should look better than he did…

He also struggled with the nutrition side and felt like he was never able to lock it down

He had a big sweet tooth, snacked a lot and wasn’t confident in how to fuel his training or race day properly

He told me he’d been stuck feeling like this for the last 12 months

Where his Hyrox times had only slightly improved

His 5k time was stuck at around 23 minutes

His weights in the gym had plateaued

And physically, he felt like his body didn’t match the amount of work he was putting in

Now if you feel like Adam did, there is a high chance you have started questioning everything

Especially if you’re the kind of guy who is already putting the effort in

And thing is, just like you, Adam didn’t need more motivation!

He needed structure

Clarity on how to train

Guidance on how to fuel

And accountability to stop winging it

Fast forward to now

🔥 Adam is down 11 lbs

🔥 At the end of his fat loss phase

🔥 Feeling fitter and stronger than ever

🔥 Lifting more in the gym

🔥 Running his half marathon more comfortably than ever

🔥 And heading into London Hyrox in a completely different place

He only missed a half marathon PB because he stopped to wait and support his race partner when she was cramping up

Which is a massive shift in itself…

Because when he joined, he felt like he was the one holding back his partner at his previous Hyrox race…

Now he’s the one moving faster

Feeling stronger

And showing up with real confidence

This is what happens when someone already committed finally gets the right plan and support in place

Not more effort

Better direction

If you relate to Adam and feel like you’re training hard but your body and performance still don’t match the work you’re putting in when you look in the mirror

Reframe your mindset to revel in the overwhelm that comes from growth

Chase the uncomfortable

And appreciate the challenge

Because these are the moments that enable you to push to the next level

When times are stressful & busy, how do you prioritise?

When things don’t go your way, how do you react?

When you shoot for a goal and fall short, how do you pick yourself back up?

This is where perspective is always so important

And remembering the moments that used to overwhelm you, that are now just an every day occurrence…

I bet the first time you were walking into the gym, you were sh****ng yourself (I know I was)

Or like the first day nerves moving from the leg press machine to a barbell squat in a busy weights area worried everyone was judging you

Or even being the one friend on a night out who says “I’m not drinking tonight boys” and gets abused all night… but over time that develops to “ah man, I wish I was like you and could have fun going out without having to get drunk”

Moments that used to scare you, you now shrug your shoulders at

Repetition builds confidence

The more you do anything, the more comfortable you feel doing it

Yeah you get better at it but it’s also because you’ve broken down the initial barrier that is the hardest moment!

So my question to you is, what barrier can you break down today?

What situation can you put yourself in that you’ve been holding yourself back doing because it felt uncomfortable?

Make that future you proud!

If you’re over a man over 35 and training for HYROX

There’s a good chance you’re working hard…

But not progressing the way you want

Correct?

Why is that?

Because most of you are still training like you did in your 20s

Or at least trying to…

More intensity

More volume

More sessions

But as you get older

Recovery matters more

Structure matters more

And your training needs to be more aligned with you and your body

The goal isn’t just to thrash yourself through sessions

It’s to actually progress…

That means:

✅ Structured strength training

✅ Managing your intensity each week

✅ Fuelling properly with food

✅ Set recovery and rest days

That’s how you will actually become stronger, leaner and perform better

But most of you don’t have a system for this…

The weekly debrief 👊🏼

So much movement behind the scenes the last week building the brand

In a big push mode right now working long days and late nights but I can’t complain about having a full plate when the goal has always been to eat!

The last couple weeks has felt like the wind is back in our sails

January and February didn’t half come with challenge and dealing with a lot of adversity and uncomfortable moments

But at the end of the day, the truest sign of a successful person is their ability to carry on pushing through the storm

Training is their anchor for me that keeps the mindset in the place it needs to be to tackle challenge!

I speak so patiently about the ripple effect of being fit & healthy has on the rest of your life because I live and breath it myself

Happy Sunday you legends 💪🏼

Comment the word ‘HYROX’ and I’ll send you our EMA Hyrox Training Blueprint 💪🏼

The HYROX physique problem 👇

Most of you guys training for Hyrox are maybe getting fitter

But your body composition isn’t changing…

Why?

Because most hybrid training is built around

❌ Too much volume
❌ Constant high intensity
❌ Random strength work

And in turn this creates: fatigue, high stress, poor recovery

So yeah you might get fitter..
But you feel softer and chunkier

The solution isn’t “just train harder bro”

It’s about having an actual structure in place that works with the demands of life and your goals
