Sundays aren’t always fancy or planned — sometimes it’s just a roast, a chat, and everyone squeezed around the same table.

But it’s these moments that become the memories we hold onto.

From Little Acorns, Life’s Memories Grow. 💜

It’s been a busy week here at Mulligans — caring for our own families and assisting other funeral homes across the Northwest.
There have been some very early starts and late finishes for our team, and while we’re certainly not complaining, it does mean we’ve spent much of the week heading to and from work in the dark.

This time of year, those shorter days can make the world feel a little heavier. The dark mornings, the early nights — they can catch up with us all.

That’s why Oakley’s message this week feels so fitting:

“The nights are drawing in, and for many of us that can feel heavy.
Oakley says: you matter more than you’ll ever realise.
The darker months can test us, but they also remind us how much small kindnesses matter.
Seasons change — and the light always finds its way back.”

So, as we move through these darker months, take care of yourself and one another.
A warm brew, a kind word, or a simple smile — they might seem small, but they can mean more than you know. 💜

Oakley’s Thought for the Week – Remembrance

This weekend, we pause to remember.
Not just the names engraved on memorials, but the lives, the laughter, and the love behind them.

Remembrance isn’t about glorifying war — it’s about honouring peace, courage, and the countless quiet sacrifices that shaped the world we live in.
It’s about taking a moment to reflect on what it means to serve, to endure, and to hope.

As we stand in silence this Sunday, may we carry that spirit of gratitude and gentleness into every day that follows.

Lest we forget.

Even in the drizzle, there was something truly striking about Thomas and Blinder today — dressed in proud Manchester United colours for a special farewell in the city. ❤️🖤

Moments like these remind us that every farewell can reflect the life, passions, and personality of the one being honoured — a final journey filled with meaning.

From little acorns, life’s memories grow – honouring every story with a meaningful farewell.

🎃 Oakley’s Thought for the Week 🍂
“Every tradition begins with a story — and every story changes with time.”

Today, Halloween is filled with laughter, costumes, and flickering pumpkins — a day of fun, imagination, and community. 🎭🕯️

But its roots reach far deeper than tricks and treats.

Long ago, this day began as Samhain (pronounced “Sow-in”) — an ancient Celtic festival marking the end of harvest and the beginning of winter. 🌾🍁
It was believed that on this night, the veil between the living and the spirit world grew thin, allowing loved ones who had passed to draw near. Candles were lit to guide them home, and offerings were left as tokens of remembrance.

Over time, Samhain blended with Christian traditions such as All Hallows’ Eve, eventually becoming the Halloween we know today — a celebration of light, warmth, and memory amidst the gathering dark. ✨

So tonight, as pumpkins glow and laughter fills the air, perhaps take a quiet moment to light a candle for someone you miss. 🕯️
A gentle flame, a simple act of love — reminding us that even as the seasons change, the bonds of the heart remain. 💛

🍁 Happy Halloween from Oakley – reminding us that even the spookiest nights are rooted in love, remembrance, and light. 🌰

Oakley's Thought of the Week

Many people won’t know this, but in addition to caring for our own families, we also support other funeral homes when they need an extra helping hand. This week, our team has been out across the North West providing additional vehicles and assistance.

It’s always interesting to see the subtle differences in the way each funeral home works — even within our own region, there are unique touches and traditions that reflect the communities they serve.

It made me think of the many ways people around the world honour their loved ones. In Mexico, families celebrate Día de los Mu***os with bright colours, candies, and food to welcome back the spirits of those they’ve lost. In Japan, the Obon festival sees lanterns lit to guide ancestors’ souls home. In Ghana, some funerals feature beautifully carved “fantasy coffins” that celebrate a person’s life and passions.

What’s one tradition, gesture, or keepsake that you feel best captures the way you remember someone special? 🌿

Oakley’s Thought of the Week

Earlier this week I sat with a lovely family to go over funeral arrangements for their loved one. As they spoke, they shared stories about the music they had chosen for the service — each piece carrying a memory, a moment, or a feeling that brought their loved one vividly back into the room.

It made me think about how powerful music truly is. A single song has the ability to stop us in our tracks — stirring emotions we thought were tucked away, or transporting us back to a moment we can picture as if it were yesterday.

Music doesn’t just fill the silence, it carries memories. It reminds us of the people we love, the times we’ve shared, and the feelings that never leave us.

What song always brings back a happy memory for you — and why?

Oakley’s Thought of the Week

It’s been a busy week here at Mulligans, supporting families through difficult times. Alongside the work, there have been kind words, phone calls, and thoughtful gestures — today two families even brought us the cards and chocolates you see here.

We never expect gestures like this, but they mean so much. The kindness shown is a gentle reminder that what matters most is making a difference — being there to guide, support, and bring comfort when it’s needed most.

Thank you to the families who place their trust in us — it means more than words can say.

🌳✨ Oakley’s Window of Memories – Now on Display in Reddish! ✨🌳

Yesterday, I finally finished putting together something very close to my heart –
Oakley’s Window of Memories, right here at our Reddish branch.

This special display is a celebration of the history, people, and places that shaped our community. We’ve gathered old photos of Reddish – from the iconic mills to long-lost shops – and put them together as a walk down memory lane… and Oakley is proudly front and centre, inviting you to take part too. 🌰💜

📸 Do you recognise any of the places in the window?
📚 Do you have an old photo tucked away in a drawer?
🗣️ Know a story behind one of the pictures?

We’re adding to the display week by week, and we’d love your help. Come by for a look, message us your memories, or just stop in for a chat.

Let’s grow this together – memory by memory.
