🎃 Oakley’s Thought for the Week 🍂
“Every tradition begins with a story — and every story changes with time.”
Today, Halloween is filled with laughter, costumes, and flickering pumpkins — a day of fun, imagination, and community. 🎭🕯️
But its roots reach far deeper than tricks and treats.
Long ago, this day began as Samhain (pronounced “Sow-in”) — an ancient Celtic festival marking the end of harvest and the beginning of winter. 🌾🍁
It was believed that on this night, the veil between the living and the spirit world grew thin, allowing loved ones who had passed to draw near. Candles were lit to guide them home, and offerings were left as tokens of remembrance.
Over time, Samhain blended with Christian traditions such as All Hallows’ Eve, eventually becoming the Halloween we know today — a celebration of light, warmth, and memory amidst the gathering dark. ✨
So tonight, as pumpkins glow and laughter fills the air, perhaps take a quiet moment to light a candle for someone you miss. 🕯️
A gentle flame, a simple act of love — reminding us that even as the seasons change, the bonds of the heart remain. 💛
🍁 Happy Halloween from Oakley – reminding us that even the spookiest nights are rooted in love, remembrance, and light. 🌰
