Charlie Barlow Counselling

Charlie Barlow Counselling I'm a qualified Person Centred therapist registered with the BACP, offering face-to-face, telephone, and online therapy

Clients tell me that therapy with me feels productive and valuable. As a therapist, I focus on meeting you where you are in life with genuine interest, understanding, and care so we can explore together what matters to you at a pace you feel comfortable with. I'm trained and skilled to work with clients experiencing anxiety, loss of employment, depression, anger, guilt, shame, loneliness, grief and feelings of hopelessness, confusion and overwhelm. I also have experience working with individual clients going through bereavement and ran a successful bereavement group. As you can see, clients seek counselling for a variety of reasons. I can provide you with warmth and understanding so we can gently discuss your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. This can help you understand how you are currently living your life and regain a sense of control and ease. Ultimately, by working together, I can help you start feeling better, ease anxiety, improve feelings of helplessness & help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself so you can find effective ways to cope with life's difficulties now and in the future. I specialise in building long-term resilience using methods that work for you. This allows you to take new ways of being away and apply them to your life now and in the future. My therapy services are available virtually (via video or telephone) to clients across the UK or face-to-face in a beautiful, discreet rural venue with excellent transport links. My therapy room is a comfortable space where you can bring yourself and unpack whatever is happening to you in the safe knowledge of working with someone with experience and training to enable you to relax and focus on whatever you want to bring to therapy. I offer a FREE initial 15-minute consultation. This is an excellent time for us to get to know each other, discuss your therapy experience, and, most importantly, address any fears you may have about the therapy process. I'm here to understand and support you, and together, we can determine if working with me is the right choice for you. You can decide if you want this to be online or via telephone. Please feel free to get in touch, even if you don't feel ready to start therapy immediately and are just in the process of considering therapy. I'm happy to chat with you about the value of engaging in therapy. Training, qualifications & experience
As a level 7 qualified Integrative Psychotherapist, I can combine elements of CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) and person-centred therapy to tailor my support to meet your needs. My commitment to continuous learning sets me apart. I am in the final research year of an MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy, further enhancing my skills and knowledge to bring to my professional practice with clients. With a rich tapestry of 25 years of experience, I have supported individuals and groups in improving Mental Health and Wellbeing in various sectors. My varied background allows me to tailor therapy to individual needs, ensuring that I offer a client-led approach rather than using a one-size-fits-all therapy model. I have an enhanced DBS disclosure and have full insurance.

I'm currenly on a 2 week break from seeing therapy clients. Taking regular breaks from practice helps me to stay emotionally regulated, ethically grounded, and mentally clear. This means I can return to clients more present, attuned and able to offer the best thearpy possible. I'm really enjoying reading a few of my favourite authors at the moment, including books from The No1 Ladies Detective Agency. Every time I read one of Alexander McCall Smiths books, it's like putting on a comfy pair of slippers and disappearing to a different world.

What do you do for yourself to reset and be the best you can in your life?

Limiting mental health awareness to just one week contradicts our responsibilities to ourselves and fellow humans as a society; it fails to promote long-term mental wellbeing and risks superficiality.

Highlighting mental health for one week risks instrumentalising suffering, using it to promote a temporary campaign, rather than affirming the inherent worth and struggle of those who live with mental distress daily.

A genuine, responsible society integrates mental health awareness into its very fibre, structures, conversations, and human-to-human interaction. It invests in mental health research and services and places mental health on the same pedestal as physical health, rather than treating it like a poor relation not worthy of high standards of investment and attention.

Ever wondered why you get anxious?

Anxiety is our body's threat response. Our ancestors would probably not have survived without a strong overriding ability to switch into fight, flight, freeze, flop, or fawn mode.

The animal predators have been replaced by worrying about making the grade, paying the bills, or constantly trying to please others. The threats now are often down to being judged by others or being rejected. As a result, our threat response now fires off for us in our everyday waking lives. Our minds in modern day society are unable to distinguish a real threat from something we think about and perceive as a threat.

It can be exhausting to be living in permanent survival mode and can trigger burnout and in some cases panic attacks.

If you're feeling overwhelmed or struggling with anxiety, you're not alone and support is available. Please don't hesitate to get in touch by calling or texting me on 07955 93961.

Together we can explore what you're experiencing and find ways to help you feel more in control.

Are you living with depression right now?

Do people in your life mean well, but keep giving you advice and solutions and trying to cheer you up with Social media cliches and psychobabble?

I have worked with many clients who thought they would never feel anything other than depressed and I've seen them come to therapy and begin to reclaim their lives.

Please feel free to get in touch. I offer a FREE 15 mins consultation which can be over the phone, in person or online.

When you're living with depression, low motivation, or a deep sense of sadness, even getting through the day can feel like climbing a mountain. You might look fine on the outside, but inside, everything feels heavy. Nothing brings joy. Everything takes effort. And often, it’s hard to imagine feeli...
