A little reminder whilst I waited for my eldest to do one of the many clubs we are almost always late for.
Parenting at the middle childhood stage can feel like a whirlwind.
But I know, this season, like the ones before it, will be over far too quickly 💨

I’ve been genuinely astonished by the sheer number of acorns this year. Feeling like Henny Penny when I leave the house.
It’s nuts galore out there, what with all these flags too. Union Jacks everywhere, flapping dramatically in the wind making me think of Nigel Farage and others alike gleefully rubbing their greasy hands together 🤢. I keep telling myself to just think of all the cute woodland animals who will be well chuffed with the juicy chestnuts. How nice their hibernation is gonna be. But, I can’t. Because surely we are so much better than this?

We don’t lose our inner child, she just gets buried under school runs, the mental load and the pressure to do everything really, really well.

Mine still lives inside me, she’s a bit wild and enjoys twirling to Kate bush in the kitchen and keeping an eye out for fairy rings in pretty woods.

Lately I’ve been trying to let her lead more by peeling back the grown up layers that are a bit crispy if I’m honest and not really mine.

Because the version of me that asks weird questions, gives stones as gifts and enjoys making daisy chains

is not childish

she’s free

Almost a decade of being a Mum.
They soak up the early years but there is so much to be said for the tween season.
Probably like playing Minecraft in creative mode which I hear is pretty chill & fun with just the occasional mod🧟‍♂️

started this beautiful trend with ‘I met my younger self for coffee’.
It’s interesting where you go and find out what you need.
I’m forever struggling to be fully present and appreciative. I’m either caught up in nostalgia or digging for clues into the future, wondering if the grass is greener.
It’s usually not
and me ten years younger would be well pleased with what the decade has given.
Those baby feet are so cute though. And if only you could jump back into the photos for a little bit and tell past you to make the most of it.
