What’s your experience living with FND, OCD, or both? Do people understand how difficult it is?

Two days ago marked FND Awareness Day, and I wanted to share this with permission from a client I have the privilege of working with.

She lives with Functional Neurological Disorder and OCD. FND is real, physical, and often misunderstood, yet she’s been told it’s “all in her head.” She lives with pain, falls, and loss of independence every day.

Alongside this, she’s doing the hard work of OCD therapy, facing her fears daily.

She’s also a single parent, volunteers, and shows up for others with so much strength.

She also finds strength in humour and has no qualms telling me when I’m wrong, which I love 🤣🤣🤣

Even when things get harder, she keeps showing up and doing the work.

That is strength.

What’s your therapy that isn’t therapy? 💅

Mine looks like this…
Coffee ready, colours lined up, and a full life debrief in the chair 😂

Kaz sorts the nails,
I accidentally bring the coping strategies 💁🏼‍♀️

Not every intervention looks like a worksheet, clearly 🤣

Waiting + uncertainty = imagination on overdrive

That waiting room effect.

Sorry not sorry 👌🤣

Ever feel like you can’t fully relax around people?

Always scanning.
Reading tone.
Waiting for the switch.

You want closeness, but the moment someone gets too close, you brace.

That’s not “trust issues”.
That’s a nervous system that learned early on that people weren’t always safe.

Hypervigilance once protected you.
Now it might be keeping you stuck.

This week, notice this:
Are you reacting to what’s happening now, or what happened before?

International Women’s Day 💜

May we be them.
May we raise them.
May we stand beside them.

To the sisters
By blood, by marriage, by circumstance, and by choice.
Step sisters, half sisters, sisters in law,
and the sisters we find along the way.

To the mums, step mums, Grandmas and nannies
who shape us in ways we often only understand later.

To the aunties and cousins,
and the friends who become family.

To the godmothers, godparents and goddaughters
who guide us, support us and cheer us on.

I have had the privilege of having the most incredible women in my life.
The best mum, sisters, nanny, aunties, cousins, friends, godmothers and goddaughters
who have shaped me in ways they probably do not even realise.

Through my work, I also have the privilege of sitting with some of the most resilient women.
Women facing adversity, stigma, pressure and heartbreak, and still showing up every single day.

Today we raise our women up.

Because behind every strong woman
is usually a circle of women who helped her rise.

Happy International Women’s Day. 💜

Most people don’t need to “calm down.”
They need to stop trying to control the uncontrollable.

Other people’s opinions.
Outcomes.
The future.
The past.

Anxiety thrives there.

Your power lives somewhere smaller:
your boundaries, your effort, your response.

Control the controllables.
Let the rest expose itself.

Therapy isn’t about fixing you. It’s about spotting the pattern.

26/02/2026

As a CBT therapist, one of the most common things I hear is:
“I don’t understand why I keep doing this.”

Often, it’s not self-sabotage.
It’s a nervous system trying to protect you from an old wound.

That’s what we call a lifetrap.

Understanding the pattern is the first step toward changing it.

More on this in the next post.

They expected a reaction. They got a question instead.
