It's seven weeks to the day that some idiot caused me a nasty injury to both my knees. Today is the first day I have truly run free in that time - up on Marsden Moor - and it feels fantastic! Long run - no idea how long, no idea duration, don't care. Freedom, Fun. Zero stats. Nothing. 2 coffees, 2 reservoirs - they only stats I got. Perfect.

Utter perfection.

So peaceful this morning.

That's the magnificent Puke Hill in the mist on Marsden Moor in the background. I've been running here for over four years and it's perfect every time. The peat is soft at the moment, not boggy. No wind, the mist, gentle rain, lack of traffic [as everyone is hungover from yesterday] made it so perfectly quiet.

Reminded me of the magic of running in lockdown when the traffic stopped and we regained nature for a short while. A time I could hear a hidden stream miles away. Today I could hear people talking 2km away. Stopped to chat with a lady walking her dog, Christine, who I often meet at the same point. We must have the same habits.

Pure magic.

No idea how long I was out as not wearing a watch and my phone was switched off [well I do know as I've run here many times] but for me that was a short/medium taken very steady and easy.

The four week old ski injury [when some tw*at deliberately knocked me off my skis] seems to be sorting itself nicely.

I feel amazing right now with very little input. I've said this before but it's the biggest output I know for very little input [apart from the initial getting fit which takes six weeks].

Out running on Marsden Moor with my friend Martin today we found all this crap dumped in the stream just by the road at the end of the run. Some Ma*****na grower obviously panicked and thrown out all their plants, lights, transformers, plant food, beer cans, BMW X5 tyre the lot. Took about an hour to drag it all out of the water and put it by the road. Thanks to https://www.facebook.com/KatiesHomemadeKitchen for the bin bags and marigolds! National Trust came along but didn't even help us apart from donate a few more bags.

Do you run free? Can you leave your gadget, your watch and any other form of tech behind when you run? And when you do this, where do you run? I'm John and I set this page up and I wrote the book 'Unplugged Runner - What Happens When You Run Free'. Photo taken running Mam Tor in Peak District last year.
