🚨 Emergency Care Plans Are Failing Our Most Vulnerable
Here’s what happened just last week to help change that — with My Emergency Plan
I published two white papers.
I gave a talk to an international audience.
I got emotional doing it...
But I’m just getting started.
🎤 I was honoured to share My Emergency Plan with a global audience through Project ECHO and Hospice UK.
🗣 I was humbled by these words from Professor Max Watson (MBE), Director of Project ECHO at Hospice UK:
“He brings an energy and a focus to advance care planning which I find really refreshing and energising… I've known him as someone who is an enthusiast, who's got energy and who makes things happen, and in our world of cynicism, Matt has just been a real light for me.”

⏱ Skip to 43:03 for my 10-minute segment if you’re short on time.
I choked up talking about the 2+ million vulnerable people in the UK still without meaningful protection during medical crises.
💬 Other brilliant speakers included Dr Matthew Doré, Prof Kate Flemming, Emma Winstanley, and Anita Hayes.
🧾 The White Papers
Exposing the Blind Spot – The Problem
✅ Live audit of 270 urgent care patients over 72 hours
🧓 71 met vulnerability criteria (care homes, dementia, housebound):
• ❌ 96% had no plan, or one too vague to use
• ⚠️ 0/71 met robust standards
• 🧠 In the dementia subgroup:
– 84% raised legal or ethical red flags
– ⅓ had no plan at all
🙏 Grateful to the independent reviewers:
Prof Erica Borgstrom (The Open University)
Assoc Prof Matthew Allsop (University of Leeds)
Dr Clive Graham (Medical Examiner Officer Lead)
Before the Next Crisis – The Solution
✅ 23 patients received expert-led planning
📉 72.5% of potential hospitalisations avoided
⚰️ 100% of recorded deaths occurred outside hospital, in comfortable settings
📞 Multiple 999 calls avoided — not through restriction, but through clarity
🧑⚕️ Praised by families, a care home leader, and an independent medical examiner officer
🙏 Foreword by Professor Max Watson

📢 My Emergency Plan is live.
Refined over 7 years.
Now ready to scale.
Our most vulnerable built the foundations of how we live today.
They don’t just deserve better.
They’ve earned it.
