Christmas time can be stressful for many reasons. Auricular acupuncture can help by targeting ear points thought to affect:

The autonomic nervous system, promoting relaxation and balancing sympathetic (fight-or-flight) and parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) activity.

Neurotransmitter levels (e.g., serotonin, endorphins), which can improve mood and reduce anxiety.

Physiological responses like heart rate, cortisol levels, and blood pressure.

So during this busy period and throughout the year enjoy the benefits of Auricular acupuncture.

Struggling to sleep? If you ask people in the UK how
well they sleep they will invariably talk about broken or disturbed sleep. Auricular acupuncture is proven to help.

Research and clinical reports suggest several mechanisms:

Regulation of the nervous system – Helps shift the body into a “rest and digest” parasympathetic state.

Reduction of stress hormones – Some studies show lowered cortisol and improved relaxation.

Endorphin release – Increases natural calming and pain-relieving chemicals.

Balancing circadian rhythm – Modulates melatonin secretion and overall sleep–wake cycles (observed in some small trials).

🧠 The Link Between Stress and Work Sickness
1. Physiological effects of stress

When you experience ongoing work stress (deadlines, workload, conflict), your body activates the HPA axis (hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis).

This leads to continuous release of cortisol and adrenaline, which can cause:

Fatigue and sleep disturbances

Headaches and muscle tension

Gastrointestinal issues (IBS, nausea)

Weakened immune response

2. Psychological and behavioral impacts

Chronic stress increases the risk of anxiety, depression, and burnout.

It may also lead to absenteeism, presenteeism (working while unwell), and reduced job performance.

3. Common “work sickness” outcomes

Stress-related illnesses include:

Hypertension and cardiovascular strain

Recurrent colds or infections

Musculoskeletal pain (especially neck and back)

Mental health disorders (anxiety, depression, insomnia)

🌿 How Auricular Acupuncture Can Help
Auricular acupuncture is a microsystem therapy — meaning the ear reflects the whole body. Specific points on the ear correspond to organs and systems, and stimulation (with needles, seeds, or electrical impulses) helps rebalance the nervous system.
1. Stress Regulation

Stimulates the vagus nerve, which promotes parasympathetic (“rest and digest”) activity.

Reduces cortisol levels and sympathetic overdrive.

Promotes a state of calm and relaxation.

2. Improved Sleep and Emotional Balance

Studies show auricular acupuncture helps improve insomnia and mood by regulating neurotransmitters such as serotonin and endorphins.

This can reduce irritability, anxiety, and emotional fatigue linked to work stress.

3. Pain Relief and Tension Reduction

Ear points like Shen Men, Sympathetic, and Neck/Shoulder are known to reduce pain and muscular tension.

Particularly helpful for tension headaches, neck stiffness, and stress-related back pain.

4. Boosted Immunity

Regular sessions may help normalize immune function, reducing the frequency of work-related “sick days” from colds or stress-related immune suppression.

⚕️ Evidence Base

Several clinical studies and systematic reviews support auricular acupuncture for stress and anxiety reduction.

The NADA protocol (National Acupuncture Detoxification Association), originally for addiction, is widely used for stress management, burnout, and emotional resilience.

While not a cure-all, auricular acupuncture is recognized as a safe complementary therapy that can enhance well-being and reduce stress-related illness when combined with lifestyle management.

Why do people use Auricular acupuncture?

People come to auricular acupuncture for all sorts of reasons. You don’t need to be in crisis. You might simply feel tired, mentally busy, or out of sorts. This treatment can be helpful for:
• Low mood, burnout or emotional fatigue
• Trouble sleeping or switching off
• Anxiety or feeling constantly on edge
• Feeling disconnected or ungrounded
• Recovering after a stressful time or major life change

It’s also a good option if you find it hard to talk about how you’re feeling. There’s no need to explain everything, just come as you are.
Some people come weekly to build a routine around nervous system care. Others book a session after a particularly difficult few days, or as a regular way to check in with themselves. It can stand alone or complement other forms of self-care or therapy.
What’s most important is that it’s a space for you — without judgment or pressure. You don’t need to feel “bad enough” to benefit.

Clients often say they feel calmer, more spacious, or clearer afterwards. Some find they sleep better, feel less reactive, or are simply more at ease in the days following.
It’s also completely normal to feel emotional or reflective after a session. That’s all part of your system softening and shifting and you’ll be supported with care.

When everything feels like too much, it can be hard to know where to start. Auricular acupuncture doesn’t demand much of you. You don’t need to talk things through or analyse anything. You just sit, rest, and let your system shift into a different gear.
It’s not about “fixing” anything. It’s about creating space for your body and mind to catch up, to let go, and to find a new rhythm. And sometimes, that’s exactly what we need.

At KJ Serenity, we often work with people who’ve tried lots of different approaches and just want to feel heard, or people who feel sensitive to the world and need somewhere to pause. We’ve seen this simple treatment offer real change in how people feel, sleep, and respond to stress.
When the body feels safe, the mind follows.

The NADA Protocol – A Simple, Supportive Method
At KJ Serenity, we use the NADA protocol — a five-point technique developed in the 1970s to support people in addiction recovery and emotional healing. Today, it’s widely used to help manage anxiety, trauma, and stress.
Here’s what each point supports:
1. Sympathetic Point – encourages the body to relax and settle
2. Shen Men ("Spirit Gate") – helps ease anxiety and emotional discomfort
3. Kidney Point – supports resilience and inner strength
4. Liver Point – helps with detox, anger, and emotional flow
5. Lung Point – supports breathing, grief, and release
These points work together to create a calm, balanced foundation. The experience is quiet, still, and for many people, deeply grounding.
The NADA protocol is non-verbal, non-diagnostic, and non-invasive — which makes it particularly helpful for those who feel overwhelmed, overstimulated, or burnt out. It provides a gentle and supportive framework for emotional reset.
