There’s a common misconception that a good life is one lived entirely in the sun. In reality, the difficult days are just as important to the human experience as the highlights: grit and glamour go good together!

We often try to avoid discomfort, but there is value in simply sitting with a bad day and allowing yourself to feel it fully. Understanding the full range of our emotions, is what leads to genuine self-awareness.
On the heavy days, the most productive thing you can do is practice self-compassion. You don’t need to fix a bad day; you just need to navigate it with kindness.

I haven’t met all of me yet. This sentiment is at the core of the therapy. It’s not about becoming someone new; it’s about meeting the parts of yourself you didn’t know were there.

Manchester: A city built by women. Today, as we celebrate International Women’s Day, it is a moment to honour the incredible resilience and character of the women who shape this city.
From the pioneering spirit of Emmeline Pankhurst, who lived and fought for change right here in Manchester (and beyond!), to the women navigating the complexities of modern life today, there is a profound history of strength in our streets.
In psychotherapy, we often talk about the importance of finding your voice and standing in your own truth. Manchester’s history is a testament to what happens when women do exactly that.
To the women of Manchester: your story is part of this city’s soul.

Sun = Serotonin! ☀️Yesterday marked the first meteorological day of spring, and with it comes a significant shift in our environment: an additional two hours of daylight across the month ⏳
From a therapeutic perspective, this increase in light is more than just a seasonal marker; it is a vital component of emotional regulation. Exposure to natural light directly impacts our circadian rhythms and the production of serotonin which is the neurotransmitter responsible for mood stability and focus.
As we move through this transition in Manchester, it is an opportunity to acknowledge how our external environment influences our internal state. That extra daylight provides a natural boost to our psychological resilience.
Make the most of the sun this morning!

Manchester is a city defined by its layers: the old brickwork, the street art, and the evolving stories in between.
In therapy, we look at individuals in much the same way. We aren’t just looking at the top layer or the immediate symptoms; we are exploring the internal architecture that has been built over time. Whether we are unpicking patterns through a psychodynamic lens or utilising CBT to restore the brickwork, the goal is to understand the whole picture.
True resilience isn’t about being a finished masterpiece; it’s about having the self-awareness to navigate your own layers (and beans).

We’ve all been there: you’re feeling overwhelmed, and someone offers the least helpful advice in human history: “Just calm down.”
Emotional regulation isn’t a switch you can just flip! It requires actual tools that work with your nervous system, not just instructions to “be better.”
If you’re feeling the pressure today, ignore the “calm down” crew and try the breathing exercise on the last slide instead. It’s a simple, effective tool that actually works.

There is a common misconception that the end goal of therapy is constant happiness. In reality, it is more about developing the emotional flexibility to handle whatever life throws at us.
