Hi Pregnant Mum's & Mummies, good to hear that a recent study, again showed 'clear benefits' for healthy mum's & their babies to use a birthing pool during labour. With less interventions & fewer complications during & after the birth compared to labour/giving birth on land. The study looked at more than 150,000 sets of mum's & babies, also finding women reported greater levels of satisfaction with their birth experience. Immersing in water is known to be an effective way of reducing pain & coping with labour. But even having a bath at home or hospital during labour can be beneficial 🥰x

Hello Lovely pregnant mum's & mummies, how cute is this, babies according to a small study found unborn babies prefer carrots to kale. Uni of Durham gave pregnant women, capsules that contained concentrated flavours of either carrot or kale, then the scientists did a 4D scan 20 mins later to see how the babies responded. They said the babies showed a more 'laughter face' following being exposed to carrot & more of a 'cry face' after exposed to kale. The findings, they said, show that what a mum eats during her pregnancy could influence what a baby prefers after birth. For me I think a bigger study is needed, this finding was small, just 100 pregnant women. But it did make me smile, when my mum showed me this from the i newspaper which printed the story last week & showed 2, 4D scans of a baby smiling or not hehe x

Hello Pregnant Mum's & Mummies - can you balance on one leg for 10 seconds or do you wobble over? The mum's coming to yoga tonight will be practising just this! How well we balance can offer an insight into our health & not just how stable we are when moving. Research suggests that an inability to balance on one leg is linked to a greater risk of stroke in middle to later life. People with poor balance also perform worse in tests of mental decline. But if your pregnant & wobbling, whilst standing on one leg, don't panic! when pregnant your balance is affected by the slight instability of your pelvis, that is adjusting & readying itself for when you give birth x

Hello Pregnant Mum's & Mummies, this brought a smile to my face today - apparently the song 'Better Together' by Jack Johnson is the most popular song to give birth to. Its a lovely song but not sure it would have been my choice. It made me remember, when I was my friend's midwife years ago, who had Madonna's 'Like a Prayer' played on repeat! 😆

Hi Pregnant Mum's & Mummies, I was very surprised to see in Boots a maternity comfort cushion, basically a rubber ring to sit on, should a women have a sore perineum from giving birth. Which will only swell the area more, as the circulation is compromise! this has been known for many years. Where as The Valley Cushion is much better, which sits you properly, as the pressure is relieved from the perineum & perianal areas of the body, with the central channel running from front to back rather than side to side & circulation isn't compromised. Or get 2 bath towels & roll them length ways, so you can sit a bum cheek on each towel when sitting down, much better than a rubber ring & cheaper. But a Valley cushion is the one for long term painful perineum recovery 😊

Hi Pregnant Mum's I feel a need to say, you are in safe hands, when you are giving birth, in the light of everything you hear about on social media, the News channels & from other people. Yes we need more midwives & doctors & it's not perfect. But midwives do their best to support women physiologically, encouraging health & well being in pregnancy, labour & birth & continue to do this even when things are not well. This care is due to good teamwork with doctors & other professionals, a success from training & practice drills for those times when it isn't straightforward, means you are safe & the UK statistics show this. I often hear about the good & safe care mum's receive, who come back to a pregnancy yoga class to show off their beautiful babies & tell their birth stories. 🥰

Hello Pregnant Mum's & Mummies, Even though it need only take 2-3mins - we just don't find time to lie down to nurture our physical & mental health, we always tell ourselves ' ive just got to do something'. But by nurturing yourselves, as my group of yoga mum's did this morning, they also role modeled this positive behaviour to their babies 'its ok' to rest the mind & body to feel better. Tonight the pregnant yoga mum's also give themselves a 'gift' to themselves of relaxation & thereby nurturing their growing babies. Lets say instead to ourselves ' I need to rest my mind /body .. its only 2-3 minutes.. Im worth this..' 🥰

Hi Pregnant Mum's -Im not surprised that 89% of women turn to social media for advice in pregnancy, what with antenatal appointments often weeks apart, plus COVID-19 stopping antenatal classes & ongoing pressures on midwifery staffing. But for women its hard to know whether social media is providing them with clear, accurate information. Listening to women this is often not the case, quite the opposite. Some of the content women are exposed to can represent a different labour/birth & healthcare to that of the NHS in the Uk x
