🟢 The DEFRA public consultation on the future of the Veterinary Surgeons Act is now OPEN!
This consultation is the next step towards regulatory changes within the veterinary and animal healthcare sector. Most of the headlines are focusing on veterinary practices, but the changes also have implications for non-vets, including physio, massage, hydro, and other allied professions.
🟢 Why does this matter to me?
The reforms may include the protection of job titles – for example, currently anyone can call themselves a veterinary physiotherapist or canine massage therapist! There may be regulations introduced that require specific qualifications to allow practitioners to work on animals. Consistent professional standards should provide increased protection of animal welfare, and remove the uncertainty for owners trying to find a suitable person to treat their animal.
🟢What should I do?
Please tell DEFRA why I am important to you! If you share your life with dogs or cats who have benefited from my treatment, please make your voice heard! The consultation is open to all:
