⚠️⚠️Amber weather warning issued⚠️⚠️

Amber and yellow National Severe Weather Warnings have been issued for snow and ice as Arctic air brings a prolonged spell of very cold weather for the start of the New Year.

🟡 Weather Alert 1: 18:00, 02/01/2026 to 10:00, 03/01/2026. This warning has a medium likelihood and a low impact.

💬 | Showers will become increasingly wintry on Friday evening and overnight. Whilst many places will not see much in the way of snow accumulations, 1-3cm is likely in some areas, especially over higher ground. Ice will be an additional hazard on untreated surfaces.

📍 | Bridgend, Cardiff, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Conwy, Denbighshire, Gwynedd, Isle of Anglesey, Merthyr Tydfil, Neath Port Talbot, Pembrokeshire, Powys, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Swansea, Vale of Glamorgan, Wrexham

🟡 Weather Alert 2: 15:00, 04/01/2026 to 12:00, 05/01/2026. This warning has a medium likelihood and a low impact.

💬 | Snow showers are expected to push further inland across Wales, parts of northwest England, the West Midlands and southwest England during Sunday evening. Along windward coasts, rain and sleet is more likely, but inland showers will fall as snow. Whilst not all locations in the warning areas will see snow, around 1-3cm is expected to fall in many places by Monday morning, with the potential for 5-8cm to build up in a few locations, particularly across inland and higher parts of Wales. Icy patches are likely to form widely.

✨ Meet the Team – Andrew Richards ✨

Say hello to Andrew Richards, one of the familiar faces here at Pembrokeshire Care 👋

Andrew has been with us for over 14 years, starting out as a carer in the Haverfordwest team before somehow (his words, not ours 😄) being moved into management. Thankfully for us, he’s been doing a great job ever since!

Outside of work, Andrew is a proud dad, with a new baby on the way, so family life keeps him more than busy. When he does get a moment, you’ll find him enjoying music, football, and delivering an impressive supply of top-tier dad jokes. 🎶⚽

🎤 Fun facts about Andrew:

Will confidently belt out Tom Jones at karaoke

Claim to fame: once had a photo with Wolf from Gladiators

Guilty pleasure: secretly moving his collection of garden gnomes around each night just to annoy his daughter 😆

We’re lucky to have Andrew on the team and grateful for his years of dedication, experience, and humour. 💙

🎄Be Kind, Look out for others and support your vulnerable friends and neighbours this Christmas.🎄

To help vulnerable people in your community this Christmas, the key things to remember are to offer companionship, provide practical support, and contribute to local charities.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑Direct Community Actions🧑‍🤝‍🧑
Check in on neighbours: A simple visit, phone call, or text can make a significant difference to someone who is lonely, especially the elderly or those living alone. The "two OK" rule suggests asking a second time if someone says they are fine, as they may not feel comfortable asking for help.
Offer practical help: Many vulnerable people struggle with daily tasks, especially during the busy or cold festive season.

❤️‍🩹Offer to help with❤️‍🩹
Grocery shopping or picking up presents.
Household tasks like cleaning or putting up simple, safe decorations.
Arranging transportation to appointments or community events.
Checking they have sufficient medication and are staying warm.
Foster social connections: Encourage participation in community events like a local Christmas lunch or carol service. If they can't leave their home, consider organizing a small, quiet gathering at their place or using video calls to connect them with family and friends far away.

Be inclusive and patient: Ensure that any interactions are respectful and empowering, not intrusive or done out of a sense of duty. Be mindful of potential sensory sensitivities (e.g., to loud noises or bright lights) if hosting events.

💙Supporting Charities and Organisations💙
Volunteer your time: Local charities, shelters, and churches rely heavily on volunteers during Christmas. Opportunities range from serving hot meals and packing hampers to simply offering a friendly listening ear.

Organisations like Crisis and The Salvation Army have specific Christmas volunteering roles.
For the elderly, charities like Age UK often look for volunteers for befriending services or social events.

🫶Donate essential items🫶
🥕Food banks: Donate food to your local food bank, as demand increases significantly during the holidays.
🎁Gifts and toys: Contribute to Christmas present appeals run by charities like The Salvation Army or Action for Children, which provide gifts to children and older people in need.
👗Warm clothing and bedding: Homeless shelters are especially in need of warm clothes as temperatures drop.
💵Make financial donations: If you're short on time, a monetary donation can provide crucial resources and long-term support for vulnerable individuals. You could even consider buying a "virtual gift," which funds specific essentials like a warm meal or housing advice.

🥺Key Mindset Reminders🥺
Loneliness is a major issue: The festive season can amplify feelings of isolation and loss for many. Prioritising companionship is essential.

Look out for signs of struggle: Changes in a person's behaviour, difficulty with daily tasks, or appearing withdrawn can indicate they need extra support.

🌸Be kind to everyone: Remember to be patient and kind to those working in essential services during the holidays, as they are often very busy.

By remembering these things, you can help make a meaningful difference to those who find Christmas a difficult time of year.

Hello friends and families 😊

As you know, we have very precious cargo, our residents/clients, across the EH Group ❤️

With the number of respiratory viruses in the local community rising steadily, we kindly ask all visitors to consider their health before coming to visit. If you are experiencing any symptoms of a respiratory illness, please either wear a mask during your visit 😷 or, if possible, postpone your visit until you feel better.

This time of year is always challenging for seasonal bugs 🤧 and keeping everyone safe remains our top priority 🛡️

On a separate note, we would like to say a big thank you for all the gifts and treats we have received so far 🎁🍫 For those sending presents for their loved ones, please ensure they are clearly labelled, as a few items have arrived without a name.

As always, thank you for your continued support and for the many, many treats 💐 The team are extremely grateful for your generosity 👏

Best wishes

All of the staff at the EH Group😊

⚠️⚠️The Met Office has issued an amber rain warning for parts of South Wales tomorrow (Monday), along with two yellow warnings:⚠️⚠️

• Yellow Warning: Heavy rain is expected in parts of North Wales, increasing the risk of flooding and travel disruption.
• Amber Warning (3:00am – 9:00pm): Persistent heavy rain across South Wales on Monday is likely to cause flooding and significant travel disruption.

Heavy rainfall may lead to flooding in affected areas, and driving conditions could become hazardous.

Please note: We do not provide a flood warning service for surface water flooding. This type of flooding is difficult to predict due to the sporadic and intense nature of rainfall that causes it.

As this unsettled weather continues, we recommend checking your flood risk—whether surface, river, or coastal—on our website and making any necessary preparations before the rain begins.
