This World Kindness Day, we are reflecting on the power of kindness - not just towards others, but towards ourselves too.

Being kind to yourself is not selfish; it is an important part of looking after your wellbeing. Taking time to rest, speaking to yourself with compassion, and reaching out for support when things feel difficult are all powerful ways to nurture your mental health and wellbeing.

Recent research has shown that compassion can help to maintain our wellbeing alongside practising breathing techniques, meditation, and mindfulness. We will be covering this in our upcoming ‘Self-Care and Compassion’ wellbeing workshop on 25th November, which will focus on the importance of self-care, self-compassion and kindness towards ourselves.

When things get difficult, maybe our mood is low or we might be feeling more anxious or stressed than usual, taking some time to reflect on our self-care and compassion can help us to manage these feelings and emotions.

Our upcoming Self-Care and Compassion wellbeing workshop explores how we can take time to prioritise our self-care and be self-compassionate towards ourselves. We will explore what self-care and compassion looks like and provide tools to help introduce these into our daily lives to support our wellbeing.

This International Stress Awareness Week (4–8 November), the focus is on ‘Optimising Employee Wellbeing through Strategic Stress Management’, highlighting the importance of looking after ourselves and each other at work.

Work can be a major source of stress, and when that pressure becomes excessive or prolonged, you may reach a point of burnout, leaving you feeling emotionally exhausted, detached, and negative about your job. Take a moment this week to pause, reflect, and consider how you can support your wellbeing, both at work and beyond.

Here are six simple but effective ways to help prevent burnout at work:
- Setting boundaries
- Practice saying “no”
- Take on projects that inspire you
- Switch off after hours
- Talk to a colleague
- Speak to your manager or HR for support

If you are struggling with workplace stress, please come along to our 'Work Stress & Burnout' Workshop on Friday 5th December at 1:30pm to learn strategies for recognising stress, preventing burnout, and supporting your wellbeing at work.

Happy Bonfire Night!

We understand that although some find this night exciting, it can be scary and triggering for others. Please stay home if you feel this way. Try some relaxation techniques and deep breathing if you find that the loud noises distress you. As well, maybe make yourself a nice warm drink and put your favourite show or film on to drown out the sound of the fireworks.

Merton Council are hosting fireworks tonight - Wednesday 5th November 2025 in Morden Park and on Saturday 8th November 2025 in Wimbledon Park. These are ticketed events so please make sure you have got yours from Merton Council website and stay safe - https://www.seetickets.com/tour/wimbledon-and-morden-park-fireworks?src=website. This will be a good way to connect with others and celebrate the start of the darker days.

Whichever way you prefer to spend it, ensure your wellbeing and safety is at the forefront!

In the month of November, men all over the world grow out their moustache in support of Movember. This is about raising awareness for men's mental health, su***de, prostate and testicular cancer. Men are more likely to end their life by su***de compared to women so it's important to break the barriers and destigmatise mental health for men. Please reach out if you need support, here are some local services which you may find helpful:

Our community partner Wimbledon Guild offer 2 Men's Space groups - Tuesday 10:30am in Morden and Friday 10:30-12pm in Wimbledon. If you are interested, please call 020 8946 0735.

There is also Men in Shed's in Morden which provides a community space for men to connect, engage in conversation, as well as create and pursue new interests. It runs every alternate Thursday - please contact Daniel at meninsheds@peoplearisenow.org for further information.

CDARS host a Gentlemen of Value Club which offers a safe space for men to break the silence and build strength. The club is open to adult men who may feel that their life is getting out of control due to various reasons including debt, gambling, relationship breakdown, burnout or substance/ alcohol misuse, and more. If you are interested please email: info@cdars.org.uk

When its chilly outside, the last thing we might think of is going out for a walk, however taking even a short walk can support our wellbeing! Wrap up warm and invite a friend for a walk and a catch up or join our Mindful Walk in Morden Hall Park - the trees might be a little bare but there is still plenty to see and enjoy.

To sign up for our Relaxation and Mindful walk on 12th October 2025 at 11am-12pm, you can register via our Eventbrite page: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/relaxation-and-mindful-walking-tickets-1871390111199?

If it is too cold or slippery outside, then why not try and online exercise class to keep moving - many can be found on the NHS website: https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/about-our-videos/
