The kidneys are two small bean-shaped organs located at the back of the abdomen, but their role in keeping the body healthy is incredibly powerful. Every day, the kidneys filter about 150–180 litres of blood, removing waste products and excess fluid which leave the body as urine. Without healthy kidneys, harmful toxins can quickly build up in the body.

One of the most important functions of the kidneys is maintaining the body’s internal balance. They help regulate blood pressure, control electrolyte levels such as sodium and potassium, and support the production of red blood cells. The kidneys also activate vitamin D, which is important for strong bones. When the kidneys are damaged, it can lead to serious conditions such as Chronic Kidney Disease and eventually Kidney Failure if not properly managed.

Taking care of your kidneys is essential for overall health. Here are some simple ways to protect them:

• Stay well hydrated by drinking enough water daily.
• Eat a balanced diet with less salt and processed foods.
• Exercise regularly to maintain a healthy weight.
• Monitor blood pressure and blood sugar, especially for people with Hypertension or Diabetes.
• Avoid excessive use of painkillers and certain medications that can damage the kidneys when overused.
• Go for regular health check-ups to detect kidney problems early.

It is observed every year on the second Thursday of March and is led by organizations like the International Society of Nephrology and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations.

The kidneys are small but powerful organs that perform vital functions in the body. They filter waste and excess fluids from the blood, regulate blood pressure, balance electrolytes, and support the production of red blood cells. When the kidneys are not functioning properly, it can lead to serious health conditions such as Chronic Kidney Disease and even Kidney Failure.

One of the biggest challenges with kidney disease is that it often develops silently, with little or no symptoms in its early stages. This is why regular health checks are important, especially for people living with risk factors such as Diabetes, Hypertension, obesity, or a family history of kidney disease.

These two small, bean-shaped organs work tirelessly every day to filter waste products, balance fluids, control blood pressure, and support overall body function. Yet, kidney disease often develops silently, with many people unaware until it becomes severe.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a growing global health concern, and many of its risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, and unhealthy lifestyles are preventable or manageable when detected early.

Simple steps to protect your kidney health include:
• Drink adequate water and stay hydrated
• Maintain a healthy blood pressure and blood sugar level

Here are 5 things that can help you stay focused on passing any nursing exam:

1. Set a clear goal and study plan
Know what you’re working toward and break your syllabus into manageable daily or weekly targets. Direction reduces overwhelm.

2. Create a distraction-free study space
A quiet, organized environment helps your brain switch into “study mode” faster and stay there longer.

3. Use active study methods
Practice questions, flashcards, group discussions, teaching someone else, or summarizing topics out loud helps retention more than passive reading.

4. Take care of your body and mind
Adequate sleep, hydration, and short breaks improve concentration and memory. Burnout blocks learning.

5. Stay consistent and believe in yourself
