5 ways to protect your mental health this week
When life feels overwhelming, small actions can make a real difference. Here are five practical strategies you can try today:
1. The 5-minute check-in
Pause and ask yourself: How am I actually feeling? What do I need right now? Sometimes we run on autopilot without checking in with ourselves.
2. Name it to tame it
Anxiety, stress, grief, exhaustion — giving emotions a name can reduce their intensity. Research shows that labelling emotions helps us process them.
3. One small boundary
Pick one thing you're going to say no to this week. A meeting you don't need to attend. A task that isn't yours. Protecting your energy matters.
4. The people list
Write down three people you can call when things get tough. Not everyone in your life is equipped to support you in the same way. Know who your people are.
5. Something just for you
Schedule one thing this week that brings you genuine joy or calm. Not productive. Not work-related. Just for you.
Mental health isn't about being perfect. It's about having tools you can reach for when you need them.
If you're struggling, professional support can help. Our therapy services and assessments are available across Greater Manchester and Lancashire.
