✨ Presence, not Presents ✨

At Christmas it’s easy to get swept up in more, more, more — more gifts, more sugar, more noise, more plans. For children especially, all that excitement can feel magical… and overwhelming at the same time.

This festive season, let’s gently remind ourselves that what children remember most isn’t what’s under the tree — it’s how they felt. 💛

Simple ways to choose presence with your children over the holidays:
🎄 Slow mornings in pyjamas
🎄 A few deep breaths before opening presents
🎄 Reading a story together by the lights
🎄 A winter walk to spot sparkles in nature
🎄 Gentle stretches or a short children’s yoga flow to release excitement
🎄 One-to-one moments: listening, cuddling, laughing, massage

When we pause, breathe and truly be with our children, we help their nervous systems settle, emotions regulate and joy land more deeply. Calm moments create space for gratitude, connection and memories that last far longer than any toy.

This Christmas, give yourself permission to soften the schedule, lower expectations and choose presence over presents — for calmer children, calmer grown-ups and a more meaningful festive season. ✨

🎄Christmas is full of excitement, treats and busy moments.
Mindful eating helps children slow down, tune in and enjoy food with calm and awareness

🌟 What is mindful eating?
Mindful eating means using our senses and our breath to really notice our food – how it looks, smells, tastes and feels. It’s about eating slowly and listening to our bodies, just like we do in children’s yoga.

🧘‍♂️ How can children practise mindful eating?
Try these yoga-inspired ideas at home:
🍪 Take 3 belly breaths before eating
👀 Look at the food – what colours and shapes can you see?
👃 Smell it slowly
👅 Take a small bite and chew gently, noticing the taste
🙏 Say one thing you feel grateful for

(You can even add a fun pose like Candy Cane Stretch or Snowflake Pose before eating!)

The run-up to Christmas can be exciting… and a little overwhelming!
Here are 12 simple, playful, calming activities you can enjoy at home with your little ones. Perfect for cosy evenings, weekend moments, and winding down after school. 💫

🌟 12 Days of Christmas Kids Yoga & Mindful Magic 🌟

Day 1 – Star Stretch
Reach up tall like the Christmas star. Big breath in… sparkly breath out. ✨

Day 2 – Candy Cane Twist
Sit tall and gently twist side to side. “I’m bendy like a candy cane!”

Day 3 – Snowflake Breathing
Trace a snowflake in the air while taking slow breaths. ❄️

Day 4 – Reindeer Run (Mindful Movement)
Trotting on the spot… then freeze like a calm, still reindeer. 🦌

Day 5 – Cosy Cocoa Relaxation
Wrap in a blanket, close your eyes, imagine sipping warm cocoa. ☕ Breathe in and out.

Day 6 – Elf Balance Challenge
Balance on one leg like a cheeky elf sneaking around the workshop! 🎁

Day 7 – Christmas Kindness Moment
Think of one kind thing you can do today. (Big or small!) 💛

Day 8 – Gingerbread Stretch
Lie on your tummy and lift your chest gently—like a gingerbread cookie rising in the oven! 🍪

Day 9 – Jingle Bell Shake
Shake out arms and legs to release excitement and wiggly energy. 🎶 let go of sillies.

Day 10 – Present Gratitude
Sit quietly and think of 3 “gifts” you already have—family, warmth, love. 🎁

Day 11 – Santa Belly Breathing
Hand on tummy, breathe in to make it round like Santa’s belly… breathe out…. ho ho ho! 🎅

Day 12 – Silent Night Star Gazing
Stand at the window or step outside. Look for a star. Take 3 calm breaths. ✨

💫 A calm Christmas is a joyful Christmas.

These moments help children:

What a wonderful time visiting so many amazing Girlguiding units — from Rainbows all the way up to Rangers! 🦋💙 It was such a pleasure to meet everyone and guide you through your Flow & Grow Yoga Challenge Badge sessions.

Yoga truly is for all ages — from the playful movements and imagination of our youngest Rainbows, to the mindful relaxation and focus techniques our Rangers loved. Each group discovered tools to help them feel calm, confident, and connected — both on and off the mat. 🌈✨

This Halloween, mix a little mindfulness magic with your pumpkins! 🧡

👆 Try Pumpkin Finger Tracing:
Hold a small pumpkin (or a picture of one you’ve drawn!) in your hands.
✨ Use your pointer finger to trace the grooves of the pumpkin.
🌬️ Breathe in slowly as you trace your finger up one groove.
😮‍💨 Breathe out slowly as you trace down the next.
Keep going all the way around your pumpkin — feeling calm, focused, and ready for more spooky fun! 👻

🎨 Make it your own!
Children can draw or design their own pumpkins, then use their artwork as a breathing pumpkin to practise slow, mindful breathing.

No classes this week but that’s doesn’t mean can’t try some yoga at home.

Looking for a little calm and creativity this half term? 🧘‍♀️✨
Here are a few fun Halloween Yoga poses and breathing ideas to try at home with your little ghosts and ghouls:

🧙‍♀️ Witch’s Broom Pose (Warrior III) – Pretend you’re flying through the night sky!
🕷️ Creepy Crawly Spider (Tabletop with wiggle fingers) – Crawl slowly and stretch those arms wide.
🎃 Pumpkin Pose (Child’s Pose) – Curl up small and take 5 slow pumpkin breaths in and out.
🐱 Black Cat Stretch (Cat Pose) – Arch your back and hiss out any spooky energy!
👻 Ghost Breaths – Breathe in deeply and exhale with a soft “woooooo” sound — calm and spooky!

It’s the perfect way to move, giggle, and relax together this half term. 🍁💫

✨What an uplifting and heartwarming evening with the wonderful Donna Ashworth ✨

Her words have resonated with me ever since I first picked up For the Women during maternity — every poem felt like it spoke right to my soul. 💛 her books are firm favourites in my house.

I often share verses from her beautiful books in my yoga classes; they flow so naturally alongside themes of calm, connection, and self-kindness. Her children’s meditation is such a lovely addition — I can already imagine weaving it into my sessions with the little yogis. 🌙✨

So grateful to have met her in person — such an inspiring evening filled with warmth, wisdom, and words that truly land. 💫
