Many people outline the importance of our psychology in what we do but don’t give practical ways to do so. Over the last decade I have worked across 17 competitive sports, acquired 19 international trophies and accumulated over $2.25m in prize money. As a HCPC-registered Sport & Exercise Psychologist, I specialise in helping athletes, coaches, and high performers reach their full potential using e

vidence-based sport psychology principles. Drawing from my experience as both a psychologist and a competitive athlete, I bring practical knowledge of mental skills training, including competition psychology, health behaviors, confidence building, managing anxiety, and sustaining motivation.

Can you have too much confidence and how does it affect performance?

Yes, overconfidence can be a performance destroyer as it can lead to complacency, reduced motivation, and a failure to prepare adequately for a challenge. This can result in underperformance, as an athlete or professional might underestimate their opposition and not give the task the focus it requires.

Unlock the secret to peak performance by mastering confidence not just any confidence but active confidence that you can build and control.

Ever wondered why some athletes seem unstoppable? It’s not just talent; it’s their mindset. Confidence isn’t a fixed trait but a skill you can develop with deliberate practice.

In my latest article I break down the confidence paradox explain why “more” confidence isn’t always better and share practical techniques like visualisation positive self-talk and journaling to help you build mental resilience.

Here are some speed running Spanish tips based using my knowledge of psychology

01/04/2026

If you have no idea what I’m saying, watch at the end to know what I’m trying to say

I have 1 more week to become fluent in Spanish

I’ll be posting about the different methods I’m using to improve my Spanish from a psych POV

This method is all about talking to yourself and not being afraid of embarrassing yourself. I try to speak the Spanish out loud and to myself at times. That’s because it’s very easy to think and write but it’s harder to vocalise your thoughts in another language as you have to process more to articulate what you mean.

Here I like to try to use as many words as I’d normally use in English and then translate that into Spanish in real time. In time it trains me to recall and order my known Spanish words in sentences I would normally use.

The aim isn’t to be like duolingo and say random things. It’s about creating sentences that would be used in real life… even if the delivery is slow.

I turned 30 last week. Here are 30 lessons that you will need to learn (part 2)

1️⃣ Things often aren’t going to be as bad as you think they are.

2️⃣ You suffer more from overthinking about the experience than the experience itself

3️⃣ You cannot (ethically) make someone do what they don’t want to do. Focus on changing yourself rather than forcing other to change into something they don’t want

4️⃣ Choose your own peace (self explanatory)

5️⃣ Investing in your health is non-negotiable. You can’t enjoy any other form of investment if your health has gone to s**t

6️⃣ Having goals is good but don’t get lost in them. Doing is good, but BEING is also necessary (still learning and applying this)

7️⃣ The most exciting thing about you shouldn’t be your job. I heard this from someone and it really changed my perspective around work

8️⃣ Say what you want and say it with your WHOLE chest. The world bends to those who know what they want

9️⃣ Have one day a week where you just take care of yourself. This will bring a lot of sanity in your week

🔟 Value your time more than your money. If it costs a few extra pounds to save you significant time then do it
