Together we build.

Next week marks Global Entrepreneurship Week, and this year’s theme feels especially true for us at Myfolks.

We are proud to celebrate the people who help us grow and the community that makes our mission possible.

To our amazing Myfolksers, thank you for helping us build a service rooted in companionship, connection and prevention. Every visit and every conversation helps us shape a future where ageing well is possible for everyone.

To our customers and families, thank you for trusting us in your homes and allowing us to support your loved ones. Your feedback and belief in Myfolks continue to guide the way we develop and improve our service.

To our partners, including Circadacare and The Shuffler, thank you for building with us. Your innovation and shared commitment to independence and wellbeing help us create safer, smarter solutions for older people.

Entrepreneurship has never been a solo journey, it is something we build together.

Day by day, visit by visit, partnership by partnership. 💜

We pause to remember and honour those who sacrificed so much for our freedoms. At Myfolks, we are grateful to those who served and continue to serve with courage and dedication.

Many of the people we visit carry their own memories of loved ones who served, or who were lost during times of conflict. Their stories and reflections are precious reminders of the personal side of remembrance — moments of love, loss, and resilience that deserve to be heard and honoured alongside the fallen.

At this time of reflection, let’s take a moment to connect with the elderly in our communities and listen to their experiences — whether through a visit, a call, or simply by sharing a quiet conversation. It’s through these connections that we carry forward their memories and help preserve their legacy.

🌺 We will remember them. 🌺

💜 Thursday Thoughts with Louise

This week finds me back home in Newcastle and as always, there’s something comforting about being here in the North East.

By chance, I’ve got one of Trainor Gym’s Shufflers with me today, which we’ll be delivering to a Myfolks client who has mobility issues. We’re hopeful it’ll help ease her pain and keep her moving more comfortably, small changes like this can make such a difference.

Being home got me thinking about what “home” really means to so many of the people we support.
It’s something we hear often: “I just want to go home.”

But for many, that phrase isn’t about a specific building. It’s about safety, familiarity, and belonging. It’s about wanting to feel anchored again when the world around them feels confusing or unfamiliar.

When someone says they want to go home, try asking:

🏡 What did their home look like?
💬 Who was there?
🍽 What dinner do they remember having?
🎨 What colour was the front door?

By inviting them to revisit those memories, you’re helping them reconnect to a sense of comfort and identity, even if they can’t physically return to that place.

Sometimes, home isn’t a location. It’s a feeling.

✨ Thursday Thoughts ✨

When caring for ageing parents or loved ones, one of the hardest questions is: when is the right time to step in?
Do they really need help? Are we interfering? Or are we not doing enough?

That’s why having conversations early makes such a difference. When everything is still going well, take the time to talk about:
✅ What their wishes are
✅ What support might look like – live-in carers, care homes, or other options
✅ Where important documents are kept
✅ Financial arrangements and expectations

Planning ahead doesn’t take away the difficulty of the moment, but it does give you clarity, confidence, and peace of mind when decisions need to be made.

💜 At Myfolks, we know how overwhelming these choices can feel. If you’d like to chat through options, I’m always happy to listen and help.

The key takeaway: It’s never too early to plan… but it can be too late.

In the meantime, don’t forget to live well and enjoy the great times together.

💜 International Day of Older Persons – 1 October 💜

Today, the UN reminds us that older persons have the right to full enjoyment of life and to be active advocates for their own dignity, inclusion, and wellbeing.

At Myfolks, we live this every day. Our work is built on one belief: ageing should never mean being left behind. It should mean being celebrated, supported, and heard.

🔎 Why this matters:

Older persons contribute wisdom, resilience, and value to our communities.

They deserve more than care — they deserve connection, joy, and purpose.

Their rights to health, safety, and participation must be protected and championed.

👣 How we can all help:

Listen to the voices and stories of older people.

Celebrate their role in shaping families, communities, and society.

Act by supporting initiatives that protect their rights and ensure dignity in ageing.

At Myfolks, we believe every day is International Day of Older Persons. Let’s commit to creating communities where everyone can age with pride, purpose, and belonging.

✨ Thursday Thoughts with Louise ✨

This week, I’ve been reflecting on the stigma that still sadly surrounds dementia. Too often, I hear families say “don’t come this week” and give reasons like a cold or tummy bug. But when I gently ask why, the real answer is often harder—they’re worried about the behaviours linked to dementia and want to protect their loved one’s dignity.

That instinct is completely natural. Of course, we want to shield those we love from the world seeing them at their most vulnerable. But here’s the truth: it isn’t their behaviour—it’s the dementia. And hiding it away doesn’t make it easier. In fact, it often makes things harder for the person caring, who is left to shoulder more than they should on their own.

At Myfolks, we’ve seen it all, and we understand. What matters is keeping both the person living with dementia and their carer supported. Sometimes, what looks like “challenging behaviour” might actually be a sign of something that can be treated—like an infection or delirium.

So my message this week is: please don’t hide away. Protect dignity, yes, but also protect your own strength. Reach out—to us, or to someone you trust. You don’t have to do this alone. 💜

📍 Look after your loved one.
📍 Look after yourself.
📍 And let us help.

🚶‍♀🌍 Today is World Car Free Day!

At Myfolks, we believe in building stronger, more connected communities. By supporting our neighbours and creating local, purposeful work, we not only reduce the need for travel but also bring people closer together.

Our vision is simple:
💜 Local people supporting local people
💜 Purposeful opportunities for Myfolksers
💜 Stronger, greener, healthier communities

Every small step – whether it’s walking to visit a neighbour, lending a helping hand nearby, or choosing to connect locally – makes a difference.

Together, we can make community support sustainable for the future. 🌱

✨ Thursday Thoughts ✨

This morning, I really felt that first proper winter morning – dark, cold, and just that little bit harder to get out of bed. In summer, it’s so much easier, with the light carrying you through both mornings and evenings. But as the seasons shift, our mood and energy shift too.

For people living with dementia, these changes can be far more than just an inconvenience. Shorter days and less natural light can create real confusion, especially in the evenings, leading to something called sundowning. This is when disorientation and agitation increase as the day draws in, because the body clock is no longer guided by daylight cues.

At Myfolks, we work with families to manage these challenges, and one practical tool we often talk about is light management. It might sound small, but the right approach to lighting at home can make a huge difference to wellbeing, routine, and peace of mind for both clients and families.

So as we step into the darker months, it’s worth remembering that something as simple as light can have a powerful effect.

💜 If you’d like to learn more about how Myfolks can support with dementia care and light management, just reach out – we’re always here to help.

💜 It’s National Inclusion Week® a chance to celebrate and reflect on how we can all build spaces where everyone feels valued, connected, and supported.

At Myfolks, inclusion isn’t just for one week. It’s at the heart of what we do every single day.
Through our social visits, sensory activities, and simple acts of companionship, we make sure that people remain engaged, active, and connected, while always respecting their beliefs, traditions, and way of life.

Together, we can build a society where inclusion isn’t an afterthought, it’s the starting point.

🚗✨ Memories on the High Street ✨🚗

This weekend our beautiful high street was transformed into a classic car exhibition, and it sparked so many memories.

Walking among the cars, I found myself smiling at familiar names and colours. I spotted a white Hillman Imp, which instantly reminded me of the turquoise one my dad had, and even echoed the colours we now use at Myfolks.

It also made me think of our clients. Many of them, especially some of the gentlemen we support, would light up at the sight of these cars. That is why I spent my Sunday taking photos, with the idea of creating a little “memory lane” collection for our visits.

Sometimes it is the small things, like an old car, a familiar song, or a well-loved photo, that help anchor us to who we are and bring back those special times with loved ones.

At Myfolks, that is what we are all about: helping people reconnect with themselves and their memories, while enjoying companionship in the present. 💜

How do you bring a little spark of memory into your week?
