“How Busy Parents Stay Consistent On Chaotic Days”

Most parents think consistency means finding a perfect 45 minute gap where nothing goes wrong.

Let me show you what it actually looks like.

Anna planned an early workout.
Alarm didn’t go off.
Busy work day.
Kids clubs.
Pick ups.
The usual chaos.

Old pattern:
“This day is ruined. I’ll start again tomorrow.”

New pattern:
Use the time she does have.

She broke her session into small exercise snacks between calls and school runs.
A few sets mid-afternoon.
A bit more between sorting tea and taking her youngest to gymnastics.

“I don’t have time” is a lie you keep telling yourself.

Here’s the truth:

You have time for:

• 45 minutes scrolling your phone
• 2 hours of Netflix after the kids sleep
• An hour meal prepping Sunday (that you never actually do)

But 20 minutes to train? “No time.”

“I’ll start again Monday.”

You’ve said this 47 times this year.

And every Monday, something comes up. The kids are sick. Work explodes. You’re too tired. You ate like s**t over the weekend so “what’s the point.”

Here’s what nobody tells you: You’re not failing because you lack discipline. You’re failing because you’re trying to fit 2010’s fitness advice into a 2025 parent’s life.

If you are a parent waiting to feel motivated before you train, that is why you keep restarting.

Motivation is a boost, not a plan. You cannot. I repeat, you cannot rely on it. Because sometimes you will feel “I can’t be arsed”

But you just crack on anyway. That’s where you win.

That’s how you build consistency…

Consistency comes from a clear routine, sessions that fit into your week, and a reason bigger than just abs.

For my clients that reason is often being able to play with their kids, having energy left after work, and not feeling like their body is holding them back.

You build consistency by lowering the barrier: shorter sessions, set days, and no all or nothing rules.

Motivation grows when you see yourself following through.

And what you actually build is: discipline.

If you are asking “am I too old to start calisthenics” at 35, 40 or 50, hear this.

The real question is not your age. It is your approach.

At 18 you can get away with random workouts, no warm up and bad sleep.

At 38 you need more patience, better structure and respect for your joints and recovery.

That does not mean you cannot start. It means you train smarter, not harder.

Most of my clients are parents in their 30s and 40s. They did not start as gymnasts. They started with tight hips, stiff shoulders and low confidence.

Age is a factor, not a stop sign.

Most parents run their life on one setting:

All in. Or nothing.

Hit every session. Track every calorie. Be “perfect”.

Or what is the point.

That belief is exactly why so many busy mums and dads stall. Life gets hectic, work kicks off, kids are ill, sleep drops, and the “perfect” plan falls apart.

Then you feel like you have failed. Again.

The problem is not you.
It is that your plan only has one gear.

Inside UNLEASHED I use something called the Gear System.

Think of your life like driving a car:
You do not drive the motorway in first gear.
You do not take tight corners in fifth.

You change gear to match the conditions.

Same with your health. We set 5 gears across key areas like:

* Nutrition
* Training
* Movement
* Social life
* Sleep

Gear 1 is your worst case week - stress is high, time is tight, energy is low.
Gear 5 is when things are smooth and you can push.

Example, training:

* Gear 1: 1 short 20 to 30 minute session
* Gear 3: 2 solid 45 to 60 minute sessions
* Gear 5: All planned sessions, pushing performance from last week

You are successful when you pick the right gear for your actual reality, not when you pretend you are in Gear 5 while living a Gear 1 week.

Progress comes from matching your expectations to your life, then taking the best action available. Not from trying to be perfect and stopping every time life gets loud.

You do not need a perfect month to change.
You need a system that keeps you moving, even at 10 or 20 percent.
