This walk combines gentle moorland and riverside scenery with rich local history, folklore, and some charming landmarks featured in the TV series All Creatures Great & Small. It offers a sociable, easy-paced experience with an optional adventurous scramble through Trollers Gill, a dramatic limestone gorge steeped in myth.

Walk Overview
Route: Starting near Appletreewick, the path follows the River Wharfe and passes through Trollers Gill.
Terrain: Mostly gentle moor and riverside walking, with a scramble up Trollers Gill for those seeking a bit more challenge.
Distance & Difficulty: Easy to moderate, although suitable for a sociable group walk, the scramble section requires caution and some agility.
Highlights: Beautiful natural scenery, historic sites, and TV locations from All Creatures Great & Small.

Key Points of Interest
Appletreewick: A picturesque village with charming stone buildings and a traditional Yorkshire atmosphere.
Trollers Gill: A limestone gorge with a fascinating folklore background. Named after trolls believed to throw stones at passersby, it is also said to be inhabited by sprites, pixies, goblins, gnomes, boggarts, and the legendary Barguest—a ghostly black dog whose gaze could petrify victims. The Barguest legend is thought to have inspired The Hound of the Baskervilles.
The River Wharfe: A scenic river that adds to the tranquil and natural beauty of the walk.

An Interesting, Easy Paced Wellness Walk of Around 7mls with 320m accumulated ascent. passing the site of Grassington Medieval VillagE, Lead Mines, Smelting Mill & The Incredible Cupola Chimney.

Back in Grassington welcome refreshments are on offer.
It’s an All Creatures Great & Small Themed Walk visiting a number of spots used in filming including a stroll through the fictional town of Darrowby.

All Our Walks are led by Experienced, Insured, Mountain Training UK Qualified Leaders, with current Outdoor First Aid Qualifications.

KESWICK MOUNTAIN & WELLNESS OCTOBER WALKING
‘We had a Great Time with excellent weather that abruptly ended as we finished the final walk and got into our cars for the return home.’

This weekend in Keswick offered a wonderful opportunity to enjoy three easy-paced wellness walks, perfect for those looking to combine gentle exercise with stunning natural scenery. Each day features a different route starting from Keswick Town Square, allowing participants to explore various iconic locations around the area.

Walk Details
Friday: A lakeside walk including the Millennium Stone and Castlehead Viewpoint, offering beautiful views of the water and surrounding fells.
Saturday: A classic walk up Catbells, returning through the peaceful Manesty Woods, combining a popular summit with a tranquil forest descent.
Sunday: A gentle ascent of Latrigg followed by a return via Brundleholme Wood, providing panoramic views and woodland scenery.

Leadership and Safety
The walks are led by an experienced International Mountain Leader, supported by three additional qualified and experienced leaders. All leaders are first aid trained, ensuring a safe and well-supported environment for participants.
This series of wellness walks is ideal for those seeking a relaxed pace, expert guidance, and the chance to experience the natural beauty of Keswick and its surroundings.

This walk takes us from the shores of Ullswater, through the cascading waterfalls of Aira Force, and across Gowbarrow Fell with its sweeping views, before returning to the very place where Dorothy Wordsworth first recorded in her Grasmere Journal the sight of a “long belt of daffodils.”
