Today, 29th July marks International System Administrator Appreciation Day!
Admittedly, these reliable people are not always acknowledged or appreciated for their hard work. Today, or when your computer breaks next - remember to thank one of your dedicated IT team members for saving the day.
We would like to introduce Neil to tell you about his experience working for HBE. A huge shout out to our own Neil and to all IT support teams on International System Administrator Appreciation Day!
Q. What does System Administrator Appreciation Day mean to you?
I think it helps cement how important system admins are to all businesses globally, we are the core of every organisation. Day to day we produce solutions to problems, as shown during the pandemic, giving IT resilience to our businesses no matter where you were based. I once read a quote that says, “SYSAdmin – we solve problems you don’t know you have in ways you can’t understand”.
Q. What does your role as System Administrator entail?
My role includes but is not limited to monitoring system health, server maintenance, server/network security, developing and testing methods to help improve business processes, working with software developers to improve existing systems, day to day support to staff in relation to the various systems and apps we use, website maintenance. Training staff and providing materials to staff on the systems, running analysis on the data captured in HBE.
Q. What is your experience working for HBE?
I’ve been through it all with HBE, from pulling all-nighters to fix system issues to building and developing internal systems and producing in-house apps, that when up and running are as rewarding as a pat on the back. I’ve been lucky that HBE are a very progressive company when it comes to IT and technology, by keeping with the times the job doesn’t become boring or feel static but rather constantly drives me to improve myself as well as setting new challenges.
