A year ago today our world changed forever, I was honestly dreading this week as it marks the beginning of when life as we knew it would forever change. My heart aches for Reuben, as he has had to navigate this life without his baby brother by his side.

A year ago today Chester was diagnosed with cancer. I grieve the life we should be living right now, instead we are simply surviving and that is the brutality of it all.

These next few weeks are going to be an emotional rollercoaster, but I’m blessed with an amazing husband and beautiful boy who makes the world shine bright on its darkest days. 🧡🦁

On Sunday 3rd May 2026, David, Claire, Paul, Tara & Kevin will take on the Belfast City Marathon, running every single mile in loving memory of our beautiful boy, Chester Byrne 🧡

Chester was just two years old. In his short life, he showed more strength, courage and love than most of us could ever imagine. Now, this incredible team are running to honour him and to give something back to the Haematology Unit that cared for him and so many other families.

This isn’t just a marathon… it’s miles of love, remembrance and hope 🧡

Every step they take carries Chester’s name. Every donation helps us continue supporting families walking the hardest paths, bringing comfort, care and small moments of light when they need it most.

Funeral notice for the late Shane McEvoy - R.I.P.

McEvoy, Shane - R.I.P. 255 Dublin Road, Killean, Newry BT35 8RL. 19th March 2026. Dearly beloved son of Gabriel and Gemma, brother of Gabriel (Michelle), Orla (Paddy) and Ciarán, partner of Stacey, uncle to Darragh, Tiernán, Conan, Dexter, Rauirí, Frank and Saorlaith.

Shane will repose at the family home. Respectfully, the house is strictly private this evening (Friday 20th March). Those wishing to pay their respects are welcome on Saturday and Sunday (21st and 22nd March) between 9am and 9pm. The house is also private on Monday morning (23rd March). Shane's remains will be removed from his home on Monday morning at 9.45am, arriving for Requiem Mass at 11am in St. Michael's church, Killean. Burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Very deeply regretted by his heartbroken parents, brothers, sister, partner, nephews, niece, aunts, uncles and his extended family circle and friends.

Family flowers only please. Donations in lieu, if desired, to Redemptoris Mater Seminary, Dundalk c/o the donations box in the family home.

St. Joseph, Patron of departing souls pray for him. May he rest in eternal peace.

Today we are thinking of every single person who is a mother in some shape or form. Mums, stepmums, grandmothers, godmothers, aunties, those longing to be mums, and those carrying the love of a child in their hearts.

For many of us in the Chester’s Chance family, today is a very hard day. Days like this can feel incredibly heavy. But yesterday reminded us why we keep going. 🧡🦁

Yesterday we made the journey to the Royal Victoria Hospital and the Haematology Ward where our beautiful Chester spent 38 days. Walking back through those doors was bittersweet in every possible way.

But what an incredible moment it was to bring hundreds of gifts, vouchers and treats to the amazing nurses, brave children and their parents. From toys and games to BPerfect and Rituals gift sets, Mother’s Day boxes, vouchers and delicious buns from the bakery, every single item was given with love.

These gifts were donated in lieu of Chester’s third birthday, and we are forever grateful for every single person who supported us. Because of you, we were able to bring a little light and joy to families who truly need it, especially today.

Without your kindness, generosity and support, none of this would have been possible. Thank you for helping us continue Chester’s story and spread his light.

Forever grateful. Forever proud of what his little name is doing.

🦁 What a phenomenal pile of presents.

We couldn’t be more proud of this incredible collection, all thanks to the kindness of our family, friends and colleagues. The generosity shown over the past few days has been nothing short of amazing.

This Saturday we will make the journey to Belfast to the Haematology Ward in the Royal Victoria Hospital, where these gifts will be handed over in remembrance of our beautiful Chester’s third birthday on Friday.

What a way to celebrate his life.
Sharing his story and bringing a little joy to children who need it most is at the very heart of what Chester’s Chance is all about.

Our wonderful friend Hannah at Sweet Street has donated scores and scores of sweet treat bags for the children on the Haematology Ward at the Royal Victoria Hospital this weekend as we prepare to mark Chester’s 3rd birthday.

Each little bag will bring a smile, a moment of sweetness, and a reminder that so many people are thinking of them.
