🪴Social Prescribing Day 🌷

WHAT IS SOCIAL PRESCRIBING?
Many things that affect our health cannot be treated by doctors or medicine alone, like loneliness, isolation or stress due to problems with debt, housing or social issues.
Social prescribing connects people to non-medical support to address these
issues and other unmet needs 💛

At Templer Wellbeing Nadine is the Social Prescriber for Cricketfield and Devon Square practices. She is also Carer and Veterans Lead with both surgeries now fully accredited 📝
This will assist with improved awareness, referrals, and access to specialist contacts.

Q. How to speak to a Social Prescriber?
A. Referral via a GP/Clinician, another professional or self referral at your registered practice.

To celebrate International Day of Happiness, we asked colleagues to share what brings a little joy to their day 💛

This collage is a reminder that happiness often lives in the small, everyday moments - lovely colleagues, a quiet cup of coffee, a breath of fresh air, or being with people who make us smile.

In busy and sometimes challenging times, taking a moment to notice these things can make a real difference.

✨ Take a pause today - what’s one small thing that brings you happiness?

🌙 World Sleep Day – Why Sleep Matters

Today is World Sleep Day, a reminder of just how important good sleep is for our physical and mental wellbeing.

Sleep helps our bodies recover, supports our immune system, improves concentration, and plays a big role in managing stress and mood. Yet many of us -especially those working shifts or busy roles - struggle to get the rest we need.

Here are a few simple tips that can help support better sleep:

💤 Keep a regular routine – Try to go to bed and wake up at similar times when possible.

📵 Wind down before bed – Limit screens and stimulating activities for 30–60 minutes before sleep.

☕ Watch caffeine timing – Try to avoid caffeine in the late afternoon or evening.

🌙 Create a sleep-friendly environment – A cool, dark, and quiet room can make a big difference.

🧠 Manage stress – Relaxation techniques such as breathing exercises, gentle stretching, or journalling can help calm the mind before bed.

Remember, sleep is not a luxury - it’s a key part of looking after your wellbeing.

If you’re struggling with sleep, support is available. You can speak to your GP or explore resources through our wellbeing services. A couple of our favourite resources are linked below:

Devon Carers announcement - see the details for the Carers Break Fund.
If you have any queries, need advice or would like information about volunteering opportunities Devon Carers will be with us at the Community Support Service next week WEDNESDAY 11th MARCH 10.30-12.30 at The Courtenay Centre 😊

📢 We're very pleased to announce that Devon County Council have confirmed funding for the very popular Carers Break Fund* for the next financial year and we are now open to accept applications 📢

With an average payment of £178, choose what YOU would like to use it on to give yourself time away from caring.

From pursuing a new hobby, learning a new skill, joining a fitness group, enjoying a night away, or just buying tools and seeds to plant in the garden, making it a wonderful space for you to spend time in, YOU choose what to spend it on.

For more info visit: 👉 https://devoncarers.org.uk/takeabreak/carers-break-fund/

*The Carers Break Fund is open to all adult carers of adults in the Devon County Council area who have not had a Carers Break payment in the last 24 months, and do not have a current Carers Health & Wellbeing Check (a carers assessment) that concluded that they have eligible needs.
