Baby wearing can be great if you are out and about and don’t/can’t use a pram. I used a sling for both my babies and it was a real sanity saver at times.
It really helped having a local sling consultant to help check fit for me and my children, as it isn’t always a one size fits all. If you have any issues with your sling, please contact this local organisation. If you have any remaining discomfort that is affecting your journey, I am more than happy to take a look.
Cold weather carrying tips!
Here are some of our top tips for carrying in the cold:
* Thin layers for both of you. Snow suits aren't recommended due to the risk of overheating, potential slumping down inside and the inability to tighten the sling/carrier properly (much like car seat straps).
Thin layers such as fleece all in ones are much safer and easier to use.
* Extremeties (parts that aren't covered by the sling/carrier - head, hands, legs) need to be kept warm too. Hats with under chin ties can be useful for older babies who like to throw them off. Some thin fleece suits have fold over parts for the hands but I also use mittens sewn onto string, again to stop them being chucked off! We sell Moomo Baby Leg Warmers so message us to purchase those!
* Babywearing coats are fab. You can also pick up carrying fleeces quite cheaply. Alternatively a larger sized coat will usually do up at least over little one's feet, or a cover that goes over your sling/carrier. We have babywearing coats and sling covers available to hire.
* Make sure your little one's airway is clear and not in any way obstructed by scarfs or your coat.
* Your sling counts as at least one layer. Your child will also be getting your body heat.
* Think about the footwear you are wearing if it's wet/icy/unstable ground.
* If you're unsure, pop us a message for some advice ❤️
