I'm a Holistic Yoga Teacher (500 hour Devon School of Yoga + Yoga for Resilience Practitioner). Cross-cultural Healing Chant Teacher (25+ years study and experience)
A Positive Psychology Wellbeing Coach...

Having experienced severe ME/CFS (Chronic fatigue syndrome) and through that, anxiety, depression and insomnia (quite normal with those health conditions) I have lived through some very challenging times...my yoga, chant and positive psychology all significantly helped me to recover. Offering these healing practices to others is a real joy and privilege...I've lived a life (also a mother, survived a divorce and breast cancer..)so whatever you're going through - I can genuinely empathise.

Did you know the Gayatri Mantra is over 3,000 years old? Likely to be even older (5000 years old)...

It’s a chant for inner clarity and light β€” not tied to any one religion, but a call for wisdom and peace.

The translation is multi-layered...the mantra is a request to the Sun to dispel the darkness of ignorance and provide clarity and strength. One (of many) translations is:-

"We meditate on the divine light that illuminates all realms. May it awaken our understanding."

We need this individually - and collectively - ancient traditions are still 100% as relevant today as they have always been...

Play... as adults, we can forget not just how much fun it is, but actually how vital play is for our health. Being creative, putting to one side our work hats, responsibilities, list of lists...

Jumping in puddles, kicking leaves, doodling, kitchen dancing! Just do it...

Yesterday's Diwali Sound & Silence felt very special, and I'm grateful to everyone who came along and helped to create a space of devotion and gratitude.

This was my message to them - and to you...

"Sharing something about Diwali with you all felt really special, and important. We can live our lives without ceremony, ritual or following the wheel of the year; not taking time to connect to the beauty of Mother Nature and all the gifts she gives us.

If we don't go to church, or are part of a like-minded community that celebrates...our lives are the poorer for it.

Taking time to acknowledge the abundance we do have in our lives, the people, the health (whatever level that may be), is so good for increasing the quality of our life.

The innate spirituality of Diwali (indeed all yoga, chant and meditation) helps us to (re) connect to our Essence...we are Light, Souls, Spirit - and this goes beyond more traditional religion.

Diwali lasts for 5 days - Saturday was day 1, Sunday day 2...there are 3 more days of this celebration still remaining. So my invitation to you is to light a candle daily, pause and acknowledge the abundance in your life, what went well (each day), and bring simple ritual into your day.

Allow the light of the candle to banish darkness (within and without), and know that literally millions of people around the world are also pausing, reflecting and celebrating.

Om Shrim Maha Lakshmiyai Namaha...may your life be blessed with abundance, the darkness be extinguished by the Light, and your own Inner Spiritual Light shine brightly..."

With love, Sarena

Such a beautiful afternoon - really grateful to everyone who joined me...celebrating Diwali, the Festival of Lights. Symbolising the victory of light over darkness, good over evil.

The goddess Laksmi is also celebrated for the abundance She brings into our lives.

Our practice this afternoon focused on asana (postures) to release tensions, creating space for the energy of abundance to flow.

We took time to reflect on our blessings and chanted (for abundance and laksmi), making this a meditative afternoon.

Sweet treats afterwards too!

I always thought that celebrating Diwali was not allowed for non-Hindus - but travelling to India taught me that the door is WIDE OPEN to celebrate, honour, and join in with anything that calls you. With respect, of course.

The Festival of Lights symbolises the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. It is also a time to acknowledge and appreciate the abundance we have in our lives and the goddess Laksmi (goddess of abundance) - so a really beautiful, uplifting, and magical time.

An attitude of gratitude can become just an empty phrase - but Diwali reminds us to pause and really appreciate what we DO have; this might be certain people in our lives, fresh water, a roof over our heads, a job, whatever level of health we have...it's not trite, it's real.

DID YOU SEE THIS?

Next Sunday I am offering another Sound & Silence retreat-style afternoon...Gentle yoga, simple chant, meditation and ceremony.

2 weeks ago I was running a 3 day retreat in Mid-Wales - yoga, chant, meditation...and ceremony.

I think we no longer have enough ceremony in our lives - it is potent, heart-opening and an ancient way of practicing...

On the retreat it was beautiful, moving, powerful, joyful...

This is why I'm including ceremony in this month's Sound & Silence - it is a primal way of being, of expressing (in this case) appreciation and gratitude for Abundance.

We'll also celebrate Laksmi (lakshmee) - goddess of abundance.

A simple practice, but one with depth - and joy.

You'll find more details under the Event tab...Offered on a sliding scale - pay what feels appropriate for you.

It would be so special to share the afternoon with you if you hear the call? (If so, the booking link is here:-)

After just 10 minutes of simple Vedic chant, this was the response from my beginner's group...

πŸ™ Focused
πŸ™ Calm Mind.
πŸ™ A peaceful, calm emptiness
πŸ™ Crown Cakra tingling
πŸ™ Mind distracted from pain
πŸ™ Gathered in
πŸ™ Clear
πŸ™ Me again
πŸ™ Breathing easier
πŸ™ Confidence to make a decision
πŸ™ Is that all it takes? Just 5-10 minutes?!

Whether it's Vedic chant (the original Sanskrit) or later evolutions/variations, when we chant all of the above and more can be quickly experienced.

Do check out my upcoming Events to join a workshop or retreat day to experience first hand the power of healing chant. No previous experience needed - nor is it singing :-)

And this..."Over the years I've had so many different anti-depressants and really nothing worked. But now, with chanting? It's made a huge, significant difference. My mind is actually calm and clear, my anxiety mostly melted away (I'll keep chanting!) and there's a sense of hope again."

It was Sooo good to get out and walk this afternoon. Having run the 3 day Autumn Equinox Retreat last weekend, then spent a day unpacking and catching up, back to teaching yoga, and LOTS more chant this week...I needed out!

I love what I do... happily Mother Nature called me.

It was exhilarating to be battered by the wind, seeing the sun's rays break through, and then turn to watch the light glide across the Mendip Hills.

And 7, yes, 7 deer in a field, too. Amazing!
